This is a large ornately decorated Victorian pub with rooms above and it has a wide staircase leading from the bar are to the upper floors:

It wasn't quite so sumptuous then as it is now, but still a fine pub nonetheless.
On one occasion we arrived to find John Thaw, Dennis Waterman, a couple of other thespians and a film crew holding court at one end of the bar. They were discussing the morning's filming which had taken place in the pub. "I don't care! I don't care!" Dennis Waterman was heard to shout to the assembled throng. "I'm not falling down those *** stairs again! I've done it three times this morning and you'll have to go with what you've got."
We were at the bar just getting them in and roared with laughter at Dennis's refusal to do any further stunts. We were "ordered" by him to make sure we watched the episode after he'd put in so much effort and he bought the three of us drinks to help us comply. We had a brief chat whilst expressing our thanks but they didn't linger too long, explaining they had to move on to another location for more filming in the afternoon.
This is the episode:

Reagan is supposed to be keeping watch on a gang who had broken in to the bank next door to the pub using the pub's cellar to gain access (though in reality there is no pub next to the Warrington). But he gets diverted as the flat from which he is doing the obbo belongs to an old flame and observing the gang seems to take second place.
RIP Dennis. Great actor.

Favourite Sweeny episode? "Messenger of the Gods" (Series 4 Episode 1). Lukey Sparrow (Played by the late Malcolm McFee from "Please Sir") is pulled in by Regan on suspicion of robbery. But Lukey is due to marry Linda Rix the following day and Jack incurs the wrath of Linda's mother - played by Diana Dors.
It is strange how some deaths get to me more than others and this is one such example. I also thoroughly enjoyed the gentle comedy series he was in "On the up" with the wonderful Joan Simms (just the one Mrs Wembley) and Sam Kelly. Quite simply non-pareil. I have the boxed set and it is still enjoyable. In fact I have always enjoyed anything DW was in. Togo summed him up - a proper bloke.
