Victim-Blaming?

I have read that there's a Downing Street Attack Squad which went for Starmer all guns blazing about Beergate, and organised or encouraged Tory MP's and ministers to tweet and to apply pressure on the police to re-open their enquiry (the one where they decided that he hadn't broken the rules).
Now the attack takes the form of accusing Starmer of bullying or seeking to influence the police by promising to resign if they issue him with a fixed penalty notice.
It reminds me a bit of Putin attacking Ukraine, and then accusing the Ukrainians of being Nazis and deserving what they got (I think that's called victim-blaming).
Any Boris fans disagree?

I agree, Hopkirk. I find it dispiriting that some people care for nothing but 'winning' battles whether they have valid points or not. In fact, when it looks like the argument is lost, pull out your revolver - that'll shut them up.

How can reasonably intelligent people, who presumably got degrees and love their mums and grans and pets, work for wealthy power-hungry media bosses who take advantage of what they regard as the bottom feeders in this great independent nation (wot won the war)?
I guess it's just the money and perks, combined in some cases with their sharing their bosses' outlook on the world.
