People with power often find that part of exercising that power is giving other people less power over their lives. When power belongs to men, as it more often than not does, then it's easy for them to enjoy domination over women and their rightful choices in life. My position on abortion has been stated many many times on here in the last twenty-one years and...

It is so simple when you dont have power, innit?
Hey Andy, all laws are about X group saying Y group cant do Z, - oh and X shouldnt do Z either ( Boris please note whilst you slurp the xampagne)
so that settle what law is for and who does it
Abortion strikes me as obviously the woman's choice
BUT
we arent American - they believe would you believe that the Constitution ( 1789 ) is immutable and as it doesnt mention abortion - - yes incredz ( originalists - or crayzies)
No one here - says "o heavens the 1791 Libel act can never be changed": the idea doesnt even enter our minds
( In the context of United States law, originalism is a concept regarding the interpretation of the Constitution that asserts that all statements in the constitution must be interpreted based on the original understanding "at the time it was adopted".)

//If you are the father, or a close family member, then your views should be considered//
Why? To give them the opportunity to encourage a pregnant woman to do something she really doesn't want to do and to potentially influence her decision? No. Some women are manipulated enough by those around them and in this they must be allowed a free choice about what happens to their bodies - and to the rest of their lives.

Why the assumption that anyone else involved will automatically want to persuade the woman to go against her own wishes?
I have said many times, and repeated on this thread, that my view is that the woman concerned, and only she has the right to decide the final outcome.
But that does not mean that she has to make that decision entirely on her own, potentially without the support of people close to her who love her and want the best for her.
I have pointed that out, if you re-read my posts, instead of jumping to erroneous conclusions, it stops me cluttering up the thread putting you straight, because you prefer to think badly of me, than take the time to read and understand what i actually think.

naomi - // Sparkly, AH thinks that the views of fathers and close family members should be considered. //
Considered is not the same as agreed with.
You could work that out if you stopped to think before assuming that I am saying something different than I have said for the last twenty-one years.
Each case is individual - some women may benefit from discussion with people close to them, some not.
That does not change the fact that the woman has the final say - even though you are trying to twist what have said to appear different to that view.

as Queen Victoria said - "we are having the baby, we will have the chloroform" - accouchement a la reine (sozza readers, French today)
( some at Court said that chloroform was against the Bible - "you will bring forther children in pain")
I can imagine a few Dads saying you cant have an abortion and oh by the way I am not contributing to the childs upkeep either
