.....Surely any referendum will be illegal?? If so surely the NO brigade will simply boycott it making the result a farce.

Anybody but that ragbag of self-regarding, virtue signalling, vested interest incompetents who have somehow wheedled their way out of local councils and into national government, Steg.

They're peddling a pipe dream with no answers as to how it can be fulfilled other than comparing Scotland to other small nations and telling the faithful that we can be like them.

Some of the smaller African nations maybe, just without the sunshine.

They can barely get the trains to run on time, if at all.
But some don't share your reasons for voting as you did, steg. Her apparently 'popularity' emanates upon the failure of others. That's why she lost the first referendum.

Come on Dougie let us know your preference, I need your wisdom
// There is already power to hold a referendum under the Referendums (Scotland) Act 2020. //

the act provides a framework, but not the power to hold an independence referendum.

Holyrood is unable to legislate on ‘reserved matters,’ which are the responsibility of the UK Parliament, so the 2020 act cannot of itself be applied to issues of independence. Paragraph 1(b) of schedule 5 of the Scotland Act 1998 states that “the Union of the Kingdoms of Scotland and England” is a reserved matter. This means the Scottish Parliament cannot declare Scotland independent, as it does not have the legislative ability to do so.

Hopefully everybody has their own reason for voting

Winning usually emirates upon the failure of others..
Emanates*
Don’t you just love a thread about Scottish politics is answered ( mostly) by non Scots? Lol.
//Winning usually emirates upon the failure of others.. //

Which is precisely what I said.
anneasquith, //Don’t you just love a thread about Scottish politics is answered ( mostly) by non Scots? Lol. //

You say that repeatedly but this isn't all about Scotland - or hadn't you noticed? No .... I don't suppose you had.
Naomi, you carry on hen, your doing a great job .
“//Winning usually emirates upon the failure of others.. //

It’s not.. you were speaking directly about the first minister
Given so many folk on here outwith Scotland keep mumping about the money Scotland gets from English taxpayers (no idea how only the English are identified) surely independence would be the ideal outcome?
there are more opinions about scottish independence in england than there are in scotland by dint of the fact there are more people in england than scotland. an independent scotland would indeed have an effect on england, and therefore being english and having an opinion on the situation is perfectly valid in my view.
BTW you'll be please to hear corby, that i love both the words mumping and outwith and use them in my little english life quite regularly :)
Thank you, anneasquith. One does one's best.

steg, The First Minister and the SNP are synonymous ... in my opinion.

anne: "Don’t you just love a thread about Scottish politics is answered ( mostly) by non Scots? Lol." - well is seems most of you are contorted by your hatred of England to use any common sense. Dougie has been doing his best for you.

//steg, The First Minister and the SNP are synonymous ... in my opinion//

Aye I took that when you said she lost the referendum when she wasn’t even first minister at that time.

But Boris won the Tory leadership because the failures of others, boris won the uk g e because the failures of others, Man City won the Premiership because of failures of others, Verstappen won the Grand Prix on Sunday because failures of…….
Ttt, once again you have accused me of hating England, last time I asked you to prove your statement, funnily enough you did not return. Maybe today you will find the evidence . TIA

doesn't matter what I post anne, you'll just poo poo it. Hatred of England is endemic in the Scots nationalist movement, of course there are no direct proclamations to the effect but the undercurrent is always there, seething resentment abounds especially in Sturgeon and the SNP.
He says the same about the First Minister but is yet to back it up with any evidence.

He hopes that if he repeats the same rubbish enough times, folk will fall for it.
