Extraordinary that some Tories are supporting Sunak as Tory leader. Does anyone remotely sensible believe that British voters will support a multi-millionaire. There is, of course, nothing wrong with being a multi-millionaire but it just won't wash with voters. His supporters must be completely out of touch. That he is actually standing shows he's not fit for the job.

I don’t think wealth influences most voters one way or the other.
Hmmm.

Labour (who, one might assume, probably don't like to thought of as a party of the rich) seem to think that their leader, who's wealth is estimated at £7.7m, would make a good PM. Many Labour supporters might see him as a worthy successor to Tony Blair, whose wealth is estimated at £45.4m.

So perhaps not everyone agrees with Paigntonian's view that the British public don't want to see a wealthy PM?
If you try to rule millionaires out of contendership, that excludes a hell of a lot of people these days. Out of every 200 adults in the UK, 9 are millionaires.
The non dom and green card issues are bigger than the wealth issue. That said, I think given the field of contenders that Sunak wouldn't be too bad ...

Khandro, why do you keep saying that?

It’s a ‘joke’ disguised as casual racism.
With his slickly produced video will there be those who think him too clever by half?
Inexorably linked with Johnson, will be too busy fending off references to such and perpetually asked why he never stood up to him and why it took him so long to act. Part of a tainted government and cabinet, let him take his Green card to the States and do the circuit.

Total clearout of the old guard required and a party reset with new faces.
"Total clearout of the old guard required and a party reset with new faces."

An absolute minimum of two faces is mandatory.
There are many justifiable criticisms you can make about Rishi Sunak but him being rich is not one of them. I dont like that sort of thing. Keir Starmer isn't exactly on Universal Credit either

Or even the other way around ...

But I'm not criticising Sunak for being wealthy. I'm trying to say that many voters won't warm to him for being rich and, if that is the case, then Tory MPs will take that on board.

Also amazing that some senior Tories are backing Liz Truss who is thoroughly unappealing, lacks any spark of personality and is, frankly, mechanical and robotic.
Mechanical and robotic? I don't know what you mean ...

I'm not sure people mind if politicians are rich, Boris being the obvious example. Though ABers seem very splenetic when people like Tony Blair get rich - apparently it's only okay for Tories.
Being an ex Prime Minister of the UK seems to be a saleable asset on the world talking circuit. Blair, Brown and Cameron have all done very well since leaving office.

Somehow I doubt there will be many takers for Boris’ style of bumbling, mumbling, scatter gun oratory. He might make in the region of £57.49p.
When all the carping and back-stabbing is over & time has passed, when all the lies and distortions are forgotten, I believe Boris Johnson will be seen as being one of the most important, influential P.M.s the United kingdom has had.
