Extraordinary that some Tories are supporting Sunak as Tory leader. Does anyone remotely sensible believe that British voters will support a multi-millionaire. There is, of course, nothing wrong with being a multi-millionaire but it just won't wash with voters. His supporters must be completely out of touch. That he is actually standing shows he's not fit for the job.

Teresa May, around £5m.

Even Maggie was worth £10m when she died.

He owns property where his children live with his ex-parners. But he has to get the begging bowl out for wallpaper.
Sunak won’t be the next leader. He is tainted more than most. His tenure as Chancellor was not that successful.

Rubbish. I’d rather see people of the calibre of Richard Branson or Theo Paphitis, self-made men who created from the ground up their own fortune from hard work, innovation and graft, not someone who inherited wealth, then married into even more whilst she used her non-dom status to avoid paying what she ought.

And what you're all missing is that times change. There will be resentment about Mr and Mrs Sunak's wealth. It's irrelevant what others were, or are, worth. He won't last five minutes in the contest.

He has inherited or married into wealth but his also educated and had good jobs before politician. But if people resent him nd prefer someone less able that's there right

I don't think you have a very firm grasp of the way people vote, Paigntonian. How do you think all those (Cons and Labour) who are worth millions are elected as MPs?

And what I'm trying to explain is that Sunak won't win because he is so wealthy. That may be unfair but that is what is going to happen. It has nothing to do with electing MPs who may, or may not, be wealthy.

If you're cutting out all multi millionaires from the 'race' to be the next Con leader, you're narrowing the field somewhat.

Zacs: If you elect a leader it is presumed that you hope he or she might appeal to voters. Because of his wealth he will not appeal to voters. Therefore the Tories would be unwise to select him as leader.
