Wales Leading The Way?
I'm in favour of it but I suspect that not all AB members will be!

//Wont be very green though, cars are geared for 30mph.
Presumably you would be even happier with a man and flag in front Buenchino?//
Aren’t cars ‘geared’ to go from anywhere between 0 and 120 mph?
It all depends on size, weight and speed as to how efficient your vehicle is.

We had a 20mph limit on what was originally 30 and country roads which were national limit restricted to 40mph county-wide during THE PANDEMIC and it was farcical.
Rolled in with 'spaces for people' road narrowing with bollards and extended pavements it was just an engineered traffic jam and police stated openly that they wouldn't be enforcing it.
Nonsensical idea for main urban arteries but typical of small-minded, special interest groups of greens and nationalists.
Teach folk to keep their wits about them and take some responsibility for themselves and their offspring, that'll make the place safer. Not going to happen though, not while there's a soapbox for the worst type of politicians and 'activists'.

Surely the speed limit is for all road users. It would make no sense for bikes, electric scooters, horses, and mobility scooters to be crashing through at higher speeds. That would defeat the whole objective - to slow down traffic.
There is the concept that roads are shared spaces, and that users should interact more and the result is less accidents. In some places slow speeds h@ve been introduced and all road markings have been erased - no white lines down the middle of the roads, no crossings, no humps, no traffic lights.

//one of the "against" issues seems to be that it would apply only to motorised traffic, leaving the lycra clad cycloyobs to continue to ride furiously - a cyclist can do significant damage to a pedestrian, that seems to have been missed.//
It’s a very rare event for a cyclist to cause major injuries to a pedestrian.
It’s even rarer for a cyclist to kill a pedestrian and I’ve yet to hear of a cyclist who killed a motorist.
Motorists however kill and injure pedestrians and cyclists every day, not to mention other motorists.
With proper infrastructure in place all that could be negated.
With all that in mind, your argument is extremely weak to say the least.

//Nonsensical idea for main urban arteries//
I consider dual carriageways and ring roads to be 'main urban arteries'. Reading this from the link….
//Wales is to become the first nation to impose it as the default on all restricted roads//
…the word 'restricted' gives me the impression that those major roads are not included. If they are, it's a potty idea.

Stupid cyclists overtaking cars at 30mph is a loophole that should be closed. The point is to slow ALL the traffic, not make it a tour de France route//
Lol, where’s your evidence of cyclists travelling at over 30 mph?
https:/ /bikeco mmuterh ero.com /whats- the-ave rage-cy cling-s peed-of -a-bike -commut er/
/In general, the average bike riding speed of commuters is 11-18 mph (18-29 km/h). If your commute is 8 miles (13 km) each way, the estimated time spent on the bike will be roughly 25-45 minutes each way./
Please show me where cyclists travelling at 30 mph and above is the norm?

Furthermore Gromit, read the link again.
//Ministers say a 20mph speed limit will lower road collisions and traffic noise and encourage people to walk and cycle.//
I guess the aim IS to eventually turn it into a Tour de France style route? More cyclists and pedestrians, less cars.
It’s aimed at reducing traffic as well as speed.

fatti: "Aren’t cars ‘geared’ to go from anywhere between 0 and 120 mph?
It all depends on size, weight and speed as to how efficient your vehicle is. " - yes but they are geared to optimise the engine revs at 30 and 55 so they use les fuel. At 20 many cars are in no man's land ratio wise, so they are either straining in too higher gear or over revving in to low a gear. Automatics especially will be changing gear a lot, using more fuel and also wearing out the gearbox quicker. Moronic idea.
