Clearly, he shot himself in the foot when he ordered them out. Did he unwittingly do us a good turn? Well motivated, educated people , came and made new lives for themselves and in the process contributed to society.

In many of those African Nations the British ran the farms and the Asians ran the businesses, betweeen them they did a pretty good job.
Then the British and Asians were thrown out and the country's went to rack and ruin under tin pot dictatorships.
On the whole I think most coming from there would have been hard working and not a drain on resources like many of the illegals we get today.

A Ugandan Asian family came to live near us. They took over the local shop. Father, mother and 2 little girls. Father and girls spoke good English, mother improved quickly and eventually wore western garb sometimes.
They were lovely people, intelligent and very hard working. It transpired that he had been a degree-level engineer. On fleeing Amin his first task was to house and feed his family.
So far as this family was concerned, Britain was better-off for having them.
