Clearly, he shot himself in the foot when he ordered them out. Did he unwittingly do us a good turn? Well motivated, educated people , came and made new lives for themselves and in the process contributed to society.

In what way?
I'm sure many contributed here, that doesn't mean we didn't have enough citizens already contributing, or in a position to do so, though. Other nations took them in for humanitarian moral reasons. He sent them away because his mind wasn't working well.

Started up businesses, employed peopled, stuff like that.
The Guardian seems to agree

But its maybe onesided and dont talk about the ones that were a drain on a resources and didnt contribute much
One of the families who came gave us Priti Patel.
In many of those African Nations the British ran the farms and the Asians ran the businesses, betweeen them they did a pretty good job.

Then the British and Asians were thrown out and the country's went to rack and ruin under tin pot dictatorships.

On the whole I think most coming from there would have been hard working and not a drain on resources like many of the illegals we get today.
The Asians were only in Uganda because the British government sent (invited?) them there to work.
I agree with YMB. Spot on.
That Yasmin Alibai-Brown was one & all she ever does is knock Britain. You'd think she'd be a bit grateful we took her in.
Maybe she would have preferred her family not to have gone to Uganda to work for the British?
YAB is a sour miserablist, who is given far too many opportunities in the UK press and on TV to spout her moaning.
A Ugandan Asian family came to live near us. They took over the local shop. Father, mother and 2 little girls. Father and girls spoke good English, mother improved quickly and eventually wore western garb sometimes.

They were lovely people, intelligent and very hard working. It transpired that he had been a degree-level engineer. On fleeing Amin his first task was to house and feed his family.

So far as this family was concerned, Britain was better-off for having them.
^ I do agree with that!!
I agree. My best friend for years was Ugandan Asian. She came over as a teenager and started her own business in North London and did really well for herself and her family. She was very beautiful and turned heads wherever she went. We had many happy skiing holidays together.
Bang on good goalie and Davebro, YAB is a racist !
