And that was basically it. Although what did for him in the end was his character and style of leadership, policy or lack of it was also an underlying source of dissatisfaction for many. I know the Tories don't like to be thought of as "ideological", he didn;t seem to have much of an idea beyond a few slogans and policies to please.
"Levelling up" is a nonsense for example.
There are as a matter of fact a lot of things I like about BJ - anyone with a fascination for buses can't be all bad - but not things that involve being a successful political leader.

Boris does not have a fascination with buses. Since he stopped being London mayor, he hardly ever uses them.
Public transport is very important in large metropolitan cities, and Johnson knew that. And the red Route Master is iconic to London, so he set about saving them. Perfect for a traditionalist and conservative.
Probably expecting the new PM to be as disasterous and polarising as folk suspect they might be. It has to be questionable how much present support for the party by the public, or the present direction of the party from it's members/MPs, will survive the change.
I didn’t think for a moment that you'd invented it Ken, but thanks for the second link. Just love 'sources' who spill beans.
I think Mr Fabricant is absolutely right. Those who wanted him gone have misread the mood of the membership - and of the public - but as usual empty cans have made the most noise and in this instance have left the country floundering with no credible alternative or plan, just as I predicted. We shall see,
Your opinion may well prove to be a valid one, Naomi. What i'm most worried about is that the two 'wannabes' have proposals on tax which are poles apart. Truss promises to slash taxes whereas Sunak plans to err on the side of caution. I'm a (almost) retired painter and decorator, not an economist, so i have no idea which is the right way. I can only hope that whoever gets the top job doesn't send inflation spiralling even higher.
