Wasn't the appeal of the USSE aka TOS, the tackiness, and the comedic angle? Which was sadly lacking in the Picard one!
piggynose

No.
When it was first shown in 1965 it was state of the art special effects for television. But it didn’t wear well. When the same episodes were still being shown 30 years later it looked cheap and the acting hammy. TOS still endures though because the stories and scripts are very good.
May She R.I.P. I have to say I think she was pretty awesome.
great actress and pivotal to the original series, i like all the trek series
since the original, enterprise not so much, the new series strange new worlds is excellent, another intresting series is the orville, started out comedic, but has gone darker, also the expanse series. and foundation.
I agree 100% with Fender.

Orville: New Horizons (Series 3) has been really good so far (like TNG with great special effects).

On AppleTV, ‘For All Mankind’ now on series 3 is also terrific.
Star Trek: the animated series is on YouTube and is actually quite good. Same characters as the original series.

The original series had farcical special effects when viewed at a later date, but I think that added to the magic of the series.

I enjoyed TNG but it was too polished and politically correct. DS9 was darker, Enterprise wasn't as good as the earlier programmes. I gave up after that and became addicted to Stargate, especially Stargate Atlantis. I have a book about the series autographed by Paul McGillion (Dr Carson Beckett)
wolf63, yea stargate was good also, they should bring it back, the wraith donald was a hoot.

jno: "what English spelling? " - well see if you can work it out jno.
I've tried to and couldn't, that's why I asked. Are you suggesting there's an American spelling of Enterprise? There isn't.
Enterprize is an archaic spelling of enterprise:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/enterprize

Lots of words used to be spelled '-ize' which are not spelled '-ise':
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/-ize
...are now spelled...
not in the era of intergalactic travel, JimF, or of American dictionaries

It's never been "American spelling"; it's not in Webster's 1828

https://webstersdictionary1828.com/Dictionary/Enterprise

It's not enterprize in America, in China, or in the 250 languages of Australia.
"It's never been "American spelling""

I never said it had...
no, I know, I was referring back to TTT's original claim on the previous page that something unspecified was in "English spelling". I still don't know if that was what he was talking about, though.
RIP Nichelle
