Zacs: You're probably right. Just find the Trump phenomenon utterly surreal. It's shame that Biden comes across as senile and there's no way he's going to run again. Obama, or, better still, Michelle would wipe the floor with Trump should he stand again. Can't really see Harris motivating the masses. Also think that Trump is bluffing about standing again.

Zacs: Yeah. I cringe every time some US politico says it's the Greatest Country On Earth. Astonishing that, with 200 countries in the world, US defence spending is the equivalent of the top 100 arms-spending nations combined, including Russia and China.

It’s still a great country. California is a great example of working multiculturalism, their scientific & technological advancement (albeit with some pinched foreign scientists / developers) is second to none and they have some amazing architecture. But….

I read some Gore Vidal who said that 66 cents in every dollar raised in federal taxation is spent on 'defence'. Can't back that up but if it's remotely true it makes the US a permanent armed camp.

It has been rumoured that documents were removed from the White House before Trump left office. The latest is that the FBI received a tip from Melanie. I have no idea if this is true but anyone who lives with Trump might well have an axe to grind

Trump thought he had declassified the four sets of top secret files, the three sets of secret documents and three sets of confidential material, and could therefore legally take them away after his tenure was over. In fact, as far as he's concerned, his tenure isn't even over, it was stolen from him, so he's entitled to those documents.

What's really quite concerning,to put it mildly, is how the US justice system is being portrayed as politicised to the extent that its decisions and actions (when taken against Trump and Republicans, at least) are positioned as attacks by Democrats. That is the path to civil unrest at the very least, civil war at worst.
