Police arrested the man suspected of pensioner stabbing. I wonder if it was the cctv capturing his face full on, or did someone recognise him.

And many others don't seem to appreciate that the Police may know who committed a crime but they have to prove it using something called evidence. :-)

Why? He'll get a stiffer sentence if he pleads not guilty & gets convicted.

To save the cost of a lengthy trial and spare the family the very real additional trauma of a trial. Murder carries a mandatory life sentence.

Can be anything from circa 15 years to whole life "inside". A guilty plea can make a difference of a few years.

If he gets a whole life term there cannot be a reduction.
If there is no whole life term the maximum reduction is 5 years, cannot exceed one-sixth of the sentence and only if he pleads guilty at the earliest opportunity.
