jno 00:16, I have heard that Her Majesty died at 14:37. If that is true then I am heartened to think that the close family, medical team and trusted staff of the Royal Household managed to keep the news away from the outside world for a while.
you might have noticed all the news reporters were wearing black as well as football games postponed i think that quite a lot of people knew before it was officially announced
yeah the hacks on the Beeb went all wibbly wobbly
and being a softie
I thought they were blubbing upset at....
having to say she was alive when she wasnt....
sort of goes against what a journo is all about
( unless you are Boris - ter daaah!)
thanks, choux, that sounds quite possible. There's probably a list somewhere of who arrived at Balmoral when, so who was in time and who wasn't. But they'll all have done their best. I've never been present at a death, having missed my parents' and my OH's too.
I think only Charles and Anne were with her. William and the other family members who travelled with him arrived half an hour after she died, and Harry arrived just before 7pm after the news had been broadcast to the nation.
Just a thought on some of the tributes that came from parliament today. Never thought I'd be giving this person any credit, but Theresa May's tribute was heartfelt, moving and at times humorous. Really enjoyed that.
Boris's tribute was superb - not least when he had the House in fits of laughter by recounting the time when a Middle Eastern gentleman he was speaking to thought the Queen, wearing a pink dress, really had jumped out of a helicopter with James Bond over the Olympic stadium.
i thought that Boris did exceptionally well when the news came of the Queens death, Huw Edwards read the whole piece, it was lengthy but very very statesmanlike.
