JRM is wrong, and badly wrong, on this one. Lancashire MP's are rightly outraged that not only is the moratorium of shale gas extraction being lifted, but consultation with the local people who live in these areas and their genuine concerns seems to be being over-ridden. Unless the people who this will affect are consulted, this is going to have a hugely negative impact on the government.
Florid, pot-bellied knobs in red trousers will blow on long and hard about the wrong kind of windows, door paint or hedge height in the green and pleasant ghettos they occupy but will happily destroy anything that doesn't directly affect them or theirs.
