Tory MPs have just, without any mandate from the British electorate, voted in as representative of their party & the country, the first non-white leader of any European country in its history, that is to say back & before pre-Roman times. A man who is richer than any other European politician, a Hindu of a Christian country, who has recently applied for a green card to work in the US, & whose fabulously wealthy wife has had to be shamed into paying UK taxes, and who has i.m.o. the charisma of my front door mat (which, memo. badly needs replacing) & would have less chance of connecting with the working class people beyond the 'red Wall' than a covid- bearing Chinaman.

Has the Tory party gone collectively mad?

I can see where you're coming from, Khandro. Think of all the kudos and apologies you'll receive when reality dawns and Rishi imposes CBDC and Digital Id's. (Jim must be rubbing his hands together in anticipation) Congratulations to you, by the way, for bringing left and right ABers together in such a heartwarming display of unity (even if it was only to hate...

Khandro, your post is potty. Really potty. I think he’s a slimy, disloyal creep but he did a good job during Covid and he is the best chance of reclaiming some order of semblance in the House after the chaos that motley crew created. Hopefully that will lead to restoring the much needed stability the country needs. Mordaunt, like Truss, was a no hoper from the beginning; the knives wouldn’t have left Boris alone to get on with the job for more than 5 minutes, so Rishi is the only one reasonably able to do what needs to be done. It makes sense to choose him.
Oops, wrong thread apologies
he did a good job during Covid

Really?
Yes, really.
Is the UK really a Christian country? In surveys more than 50% profess NO religious belief & that proportion is greater for younger age groups.

Belief in a god & how you choose to express that belief has no place in politics. IMV
I don’t think it means having a belief in God necessarily, Dave. We live in a Christian ‘culture’.
Why should atheists & other religions have the label "Christian" foisted upon them? Surely our culture is British rather than Christian.

I think the OP has certain beliefs & although not in the UK he thinks we should only have politicians here who share those beliefs. He's out of order.
People aren’t being labelled, Dave. We have all sorts here but like the Americas and most of Europe, we embrace the culture of Christianity. Eastern countries follow the cultures of eastern religions. Like it or not religion is influential the world over but I think Khandro is mistaken if he thinks Rishi’s Hinduism will negatively affect the way he does his job. He’s not exactly a swami.
Yes, people should give him a chance. Especially any faux left wing people. I expect you'll be pleasantly surprised by this WEF graduate.
Doubt any Labour Chancellor chucked as much public money around as Rishi. (in their wildest dreams)
Of course, I should wait and see as well.
He was certainly free-handed with borrowed money.
// our culture is British rather than Christian //

Isn't Christianity the bedrock of British culture, if not today, then most certainly of yesteryear. Surely?

Given the diversity of the UK populous, as it is today, makes it quite difficult to pin down the traditions which make up British culture.

Should we expect any individual living in this country, to old dear all of the values and traditions which are practised here in British society on a daily basis?

// free-handed with borrowed money. //

An all too common human trait.
He’s the fourth Tory leader since 2016 to be elected like that.
In fairness two of the others went on to win elections.
The previous leader was hopeless even if she was white.
A bit shameful all this.
what's shameful Ich?
Labour did it too with Brown, its the way our system work. We vote for our MP and the Party he represents. Whilst some mat take into account the PM the electorate dont vote for him/her. We do not have an elected President, we have an unelected King instead,
IMHO, Khandro's post Emmie.
thanks YMB...
“what's shameful Ich?”

Where the OP appears to be going with his post
i understand...
