//The number of Albanian migrants crossing the Channel has seen an "exponential rise" over the last year, MPs have heard.

The Home Affairs Committee was told that "one to two percent" of the entire male population of Albania - around 10,000 men - arrived on small boats this year alone.//

BBC television news last night reported the number as 12,000 but I can find nothing about it on their website today.

We talked here earlier in the year about the rise in the number of Albanians coming to the UK illegally - but that met with some degree of denial. Now there's no doubt. These people can in no way be considered asylum seekers. Leave Suella to do her job!

yeah well times have changed a bit since 1945
I wholeheartedly agree that "... there should a fake-proof identity card system". Therein lies a potential problem: that ID system has to be asylum-seeker-proof. Many, but not all, are street-wise about our system before they arrive.
I recently heard a radio correspondent state that the majority of Albanians fly to Belgium and are in England within two days. All well-organised. {yes. 'organise' is the correct spelling!}
davebro: Don't you understand it's already happended?
what's happended?
I need a bit of educating on this!

Albania is in Europe - why are they paying thousands to come over on a rubber boat, when an Easy Jet flight is a couple of hundred quid? Once on these shores presumably (as I say, I need educating) they could claim asylum or just disappear.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather we didn't have them by the thousands, but it just seems curious to me why they'd jump in a boat.
I'd thought that DD, especially when I read one of the ones sent home had a cousin here.

Surely you just apply for a visa to visit relatives, book a return flight and a hotel and Bobs your Uncle.

Unless you want a free hotel, but as I understand it most Albanians come here to work in the Black economy so dont want one.

What - like sex trafficking & card fraud?
We will take back control of our Borders said Boris.

I don’t think Gulliver ever tried to understand the difference between legal and illegal immigration. Still spouting the same drivel.
Brexit was 100% about stopping immigration Legal or non illegal.
Question Author
Gulliver … non-illegal is …. legal. Oh my! :o)
Ah Naomi, the gift that keeps on giving, the same old drivel , wearing the same old blinkers, looking down that same narrow tunnel of vision, remembering her days at the Conservative school of radicalisation.
Do they do car washing and valeting ?

I could do with such a premises near me
it seems fairly clear that this is a result of organised crime... especially but not exclusively people smuggling... i.e. slavery.

An absolutely evil thing and i am pleased that the uk authorities are working with albanian police to put a stop to it... a problem like this is best tackled at source it seems to me.
Gulliver seriously, please stop derailing threads, it’s boring ,Brexit is finished, Boris has gone , FGS , get over that
//the uk authorities are working with Albanian police to put a stop to it//

Yeah - I'm sure the Albanian police are all over it! Get real.
How is gully derailing the thread when he's talking about our not so secure borders?
