My Local News
It fills me with sadness and despair to post this link to my home city. I really don't know the answer (if indeed there is one) to this behaviour. Youths being blamed but I believe some "rioters" were in their 30s. This all happened not 2 miles from where I live

OG, I think local councils discouraged folk from building their own bonfires and only go to organised displays. Shouldn't happen until 5th November of course but....... No organised displays in Dundee this year as they are strapped for cash so I think there will be many "illegal" bonfires across Scotland. Fire brigade are always called to extinguish them (in towns anyway). Feel sorry for the kids.
Well here is part of the problem:
"Some of the people in the video footage will be well-known to them."
The reluctance of the Courts and, as Douglas says above the failure of Plod to uphold the law, and mete out harsh sentences is the underlying problem.
Probably no consolation Maggie, but it is not just where you live.

From the article./"When people are bored and hungry, and people have got nothing to keep them going, then this seems to be the way that it plays out," /
If they are bored and hungry, why are they spending loads of money on fireworks?
It's really shocking, and it's a shame we can't get the sale of fireworks banned.

I so wish the UK would ban fireworks too, Barsel. They are illegal in Ireland with a penalty of ten thousand euros or five years in prison.
I have heard one this year probably brought by a tourist or from up north brought in by idiots. Nobody hangs around to light more than one here as the guards are really hot on no fireworks in the south.
