Presumably the refurbishment of a semi derelict building needed planning permission. Do the planning committee ask to see Dulux paint swatches before approving investment in the area.
Smacks of micro-management and an over zealous and ambitious department leader.

Yes they do. They usually require elevations marked up with the colours. Dulux do, in fact, produce a range of Heritage colours. This building wasn’t semi derelict, I don’t think.

Havent we had this all before?
so what I hear you holler
Bath and a bright red door on the crescent
Prince Charles saying St Pauls should be pulled down as it is now inconsistent with the architecture around it
Leddy in Hampstead painting her house like a slice of sponge ( spent a million she didnt need on that)
and then she painted it Outrageous Orange.
and then bought her shouty neighbours house ( as well) and STILL didnt get planning permission

A City of Edinburgh Council spokeswoman said: "The colour of the door is not in keeping with the historic character and appearance of this listed building in the New Town, part of our World Heritage Site.
"The owner agreed the door would be repainted but as this work has not been carried out we are taking enforcement action requiring them to repaint the door."
She added: "We have not received any other complaints about the colour of other doors in the area but if we did, then these too would be investigated and enforcement action will be taken if needed."

As I said on the original thread the affected homeowner here should complain about all the other doors & when enforcement notices are served on them get a neighbourhood action committee together to challenge the council.

It's a big cock-up on the part of the building's owners and advisers/decorators. Either that or they presumed that the law shouldn't apply to them and that they could simply present the council with a fait accompli which would succeed. I'm sure they could have agreed an acceptable colour before starting work.
