Never mind Charles I wish supermarkets would stop selling halal. It isn't always highlighted on the packets and a lot of shoppers often buy it without knowing what it is. It should be banned in the Uk.
I think it's a good move to ban fois gras and hope one day it's completely wiped out. Just stick to regular liver.

I don't think the same will happen with Halal regardless of any campaigning.
I love the stuff - with a good glass of sauterne. Lived too long en France....

Anyway, if on bans Halaal, then one has to ban kosher as well.
All New Zealand lamb is halal and most supermarket chickens are, although in both they are stunned pre-slaughter.
My friend is manager of a chicken processing plant and all the chickens are processed in exactly the same way with a Muslim prayer playing very quietly on a loop. Three quarters are not labelled as halal, the rest are.
Could someone here explain what Halal is?
Spanish foie gras is nicer and kinder than French. I remember having it in Spain on my 30th birthday, before my AB life, pan-fried with a confit of pear and quince. It was so delicious.

Slitting the throat of an animal that has not been stunned.
LadyCG; How in Spain do they ensure that the foie is really gras?
Thank you, webbo. Is it so that the blood is drained away and not eaten by the human consumer?
Atheist, they give the ducks a rich, fatty diet but don't force-feed them.
Thanks, LadyCG. I don't like the idea of deliberately inducing liver disease just to make our food taste nicer. Even if they don't forcefully ram the corn down their gullets, they do overfeed them.

\\Thank you, webbo. Is it so that the blood is drained away and not eaten by the human consumer?//

No, its so the animal is alive when its throat is cut and not stunned and a prayer is said over the animal
Halal permits stunning before slaughter, Kosher does not
Slitting the animals throat and hanging it up until it's life's blood drains away causes a lot of distress to the other animals in the queue that are waiting for death . But it's ok because a prayer is said and that makes everything alright!!! All in the name of religion. It is a sick and outdated ritual .
It sounds to me that Halal and Kosher are very similar. Both seem to be from the same part of the world. Both seem to have the same attitude to living creatures below the human level. Life was hard in those days, so they didn't have the squeamishness that there is today in some quarters.
I'm vegetarian and don't see a need nowadays to kill animals to survive. If we do feel the need to kill them, then I would hope that we would try to do it as painlessly as possible.
Having a bolt shot in to the skull distresses animals in the queue, too. Slaughtering is not nice, however it's done.
Different cultures have differing beliefs.

Koreans eat dogs which UK abhors.

UK eats cows which India regards as sacred.

So, beware hypocrisy.
I suppose that my view is that we should only eat what is necessary for our own survival. If we can avoid killing other creatures, then I would prefer not to kill them. If I had to eat to survive I would probably kill anything.
I think if you eat animals you have to contend with their deaths, however that is. I know that Kosher is not eating 'the kid in the milk'. No mixing of meat and dairy, no shellfish, separate cooking facilities etc. I remember (in the 1970's) going to a friend's house and her dad had killed some chickens for the pot. They were hanging upside down by their feet from the washing line with their throats cut. I also have pictures of family members (probably 1920's) carving up a pig outside their house that had it's throat cut. So it wasn't so long ago we were slaughtering animals in this country without stunning etc
Chas can go frack himself for all I care!
