Neither, I am neutral. I don't like football so don't really care enough to be either anti or for the location. Surely the time for all this upset was either before or when Qatar was awarded the WC?

Bednobs, there was a negative reaction when the announcement was made that Qatar would host the WC and that it would be played in November/December. Many a footballing sage voiced their disapproval and disappointment.
But when FIFA make a decision, countries have to either abide by it or boycott the event. I have a feeling that had the top half dozen or so teams boycotted the event at the outset, FIFA would have had no option but to rethink their decision.

I would imagine that the 'Red Light' districts of Qatar have their own version of Hamburg's '10 Mark Alley' back in the day - when 10DM = approx £2.50p. Or so i have been told :-)

Just seen your reply, Bobs, and i sort of agree with you. World Cup football in winter just doesn't seem right. However, i'd be failing in my duty as a gambler if i didn't watch most of the games (can't watch them all live 'cos i'm booked in for a full house decor from a week on Monday) if only in order to see for myself how sides handle the various conditions. I doubt the stats are going to help much in that particular environment.

I don't give a hoot about 'footie'. I'm unhappy that Qatar is getting publicity and I don't see why the 5.00 p.m. radio 4 bulletin should begin with news about the state of Qatar's team playing whoever it was. It should be decently ignored.

i find t odd that some posters on this thread (naomi, TTT to name but 2) are often heard to say that sport and politics should not mix (when for example it comes to taking the knee) but then use politics as the reason qatar shouldnt host the WC
