But when FIFA make a decision, countries have to either abide by it or boycott the event. I have a feeling that had the top half dozen or so teams boycotted the event at the outset, FIFA would have had no option but to rethink their decision.

Just seen your reply, Bobs, and i sort of agree with you. World Cup football in winter just doesn't seem right. However, i'd be failing in my duty as a gambler if i didn't watch most of the games (can't watch them all live 'cos i'm booked in for a full house decor from a week on Monday) if only in order to see for myself how sides handle the various conditions. I doubt the stats are going to help much in that particular environment.
