I think that the lady was asking where her family originated from. I think that is a genuine question, maybe not the time nor the place but it is hardly a major issue.

There's a lot of pursed lips self-righteousness on all sides here. No-one was present and so no-one knows what really happened. But many seem to have extremely strong views based, as far as I can tell, solely on their pre-existing opinions about political, social, racial etc issues. With some exceptions, posts here are very predictable.
I've never Tweeted about the treatment of Meghan, she told Jeremy Vine

We don't, but it was seen as serious enough for Lady Hussey immediately to apologise and resign and for Prince William to issue a statement.
Aside from the original debate here, and on its companion thread, I remain intrigued as to why a number of AB'ers have evidenced increasing and unfathomable hostility towards Ms Fulani, which is ratcheting up on a daily basis.
roy has correctly assessed his own contribution as 'drivel', perhaps a little harshly against himself and his cohorts, but I think he is absolutely correct in his analysis.
We shall see if anyone else has anything to add ...

Racism, like sexism- doesn't need to be deliberate, aggressive or hostile... it's just stereotyping and othering, when you wouldn't so it with someone else.
She meant no harm, I'm sure- but only argued with her heritage, due to colour. She wouldn't have done that to me... even though I am possibly less "British"... it will be nice when people genuinely just stop noticing it.

Here's a clumsy imaginary situation.
If you turned up at such a do dressed in kilt, sporran etc, and were approached by a Royal or other unknown obvious establishment person who said "Hello there! I like your get-up. What clan are you from?" (Imagine it was the Duke of Edinburgh talking to you) How would you react?
I await your scorn unflinchingly.

Mary, Marlene, Ngozi...Pixie.
The woman appears to be obsessed with Africa, strange how she didn't want to discuss that with Lady Hussey.
The old dear probably shouldn't have been so persistant but Ngozi shouldn't have been so obtuse.
Was Ngozi the only ethnic that Lady Hussey upset at the get together?

And yet she chatted away with Camilla (in what looked like the middle of the room) after the incident.
