… and one in a critical condition - and it appears the authorities think there might be others so are still searching. Let's hope they're wrong. What an appalling tragedy. Just young kids having fun in the ice and snow Those poor families. Devastating.

A dreadfully sad incident. My fingers are crossed for the 6 year old lad in hospital & my thoughts are with all the families & friends.

For the three deceased - RIP, young 'uns.
Awful tragedy. Those poor children and the heartbroken families. Hope the 6 year old makes it through.

RIP little ones
I know that this is a terrible tragedy, but also please give a thought to those policemen who went straight into the water to try and save these poor mites. No doubt someone of superior rank will admonish them for failing to adhere to H & S rules and for not taking a Dynamic Risk Assessment !! They deserve a medal.

Thankfully I don't think there's any mention of that anywhere. The emergency services responded well to an emergency. That's what they do.

As a retired Fireman I thank you for your comment "That's what they do ". I think you'd be surprised at some of the rules, regulations and practices they have to abide by these days, I hear it from current serving members.

fgb - thank you for your lifetime service

and yes ( no ref cant be arrissed) a child drowned in Manchester whilst the police wondered about safety

I thought that was why there was so much mention of the first responders waded in....because so often they havent

( large bit of the Arena reports is on - is it safe for us ( police etc) to go in - and should we stop volunteers saying "oh sid it we are going in ourselves!" - - so far official answers no and yes)
fbg - I thought they wanted a contrast to the fire officers' behaviour at the Arena - go off to Phillips Park and dont answer the phone.

the firemen ( troops ) are the ones to start the report process ( Kerslake ) and didnt like the results
