… and one in a critical condition - and it appears the authorities think there might be others so are still searching. Let's hope they're wrong. What an appalling tragedy. Just young kids having fun in the ice and snow Those poor families. Devastating.

bhg - // The only articles I have read say the upto 6 might have been involved. I am very sure that if my child had been out yesterday and not come home by now I would be informing the police that it was missing. //

I think that suggests that the missing children are siblings of the ones already found.
A winter tragedy, ,,please God it’s the last . RIP.
ANDY, "I think that suggests that the missing children are siblings of the ones already found."

The police have had no-one come forward reporting anyone, let alone a sibling, is missing still.
Extremely sad. Christmas forever tainted for those poor families now.
Very grim this one, awful job for the recuers.
I remember those public safety broadcasts we had growing up, the 'don't talk to strangers' and the 'don't play with matches'.
Here in NI we still had safety 'adverts' until recently but people were complaining that they were too realistic.
Hope the doctors, nurses and paramedics get the pay rise they deserve for having to deal with such trauma and tragedy but no doubt some will begrudge them.
One who died was eight. The one still alive is six! Where were the parents?
* where were the parents*, a bit early to be trying to lay blame anywhere ATM .
Reasonable question as far as I'm concerned.
Absolutely tragic news. R.I.P.

Let us wait for more details to be confirmed rather than make any assumptions. The first responders were wonderful, especially the police officer and civilian(s) who entered the water. The BBC news at lunch time showed police running to the lake in their effort to preserve life. Imagine being a member of the rescue services who got up this morning knowing they would be searching the lake for any bodies. My heart goes out to all those involved.
If anybody is still missing, it may well be the parents. It's the only thing that would make any sense.
The latest news appears to suggest noone else is missing, thank goodness. It's enough of a tragedy already without more deaths.
Police said they did not believe anyone else was missing but were continuing searches to be "100% certain"

Surely then, the parents would have said so!
canary 12:13, you've excelled yourself there.
Hopkirk, where were the parents?
It sounds to me like this was some kind of park, beauty spot. I'm sure when boys go out to play at a park, the eldest being 11 yrs old, the parents would not have seen any danger there.
They would probably not realised the lake would be frozen and the boys would be tempted to skate on it.
Without debating the whys and the wherefores, this has been such a tragedy. especially poignant leading up to Christmas. Thoughts are with the families and friends of the children involved.
