We can only hope that the coverage this story is getting will make it less likely to happen elsewhere, but that's probably a forlorn hope. So sad for the local community and the bereaved families.

Sadly every summer children drown swimming in unsupervised bodies of water during heatwaves and every time there is a freeze they play on frozen canals, ponds, pools and lakes.
Not just children. Just a couple of days ago an older man spent 40 minutes in a frozen lake not far from me, having gone through the ice trying to rescue his dog. The dog died and the gent only survived due to the efforts of passers by and the emergency services. He is still having treatment.
There are several reports in the papers of police across the country ordering people off frozen lakes.

Such a tragedy and it doesn't matter if it's Christmas, Easter, Halloween. The poor parents must be inconsolable.

I see that the 6 and 8 year old who died were brothers - cousins to the 11 year old who also died. How brave of little Jack to try and save them though. Those poor families.
