How can Jerusalem even be relevant to Islam anyway, it's existed at least 3500 years longer that Islam.

Tora, perhaps read your link?
because the prophet (pbuh) ascended to heaven from there. And as you know it's holy to Christians too - though you may not understand the concept of holiness.
Question Author
I read the link I still don;t see how a city that has existed 3500 years longer than Islam can be "holy" to Islam.
Question Author
Even if it is relevant surely an Israeli minister is allowed to visit things in his own capital.
and he did. And they regularly build illegal settlements on Palestinian land. Why ever would the Palestinians object? Don't they know Jehovah told the Israelites they could?
Question Author
jno: "and he did. And they regularly build illegal settlements on Palestinian land." - what in Jerusalem?
A minister whose politics are perceived as particularly provocative, plus the idea that Jerusalem is now the capital of Israel?
Question Author
Where is the "Palestinian" land? It's been Israel since about 1000BC ...

Jesus ascended to heaven from just outside Jerusalem at The Olive Mount. Squillions of years later so did the copycat prophet. Played a top trump there so it must be more important ... Yes? ... No!
Islam borrowed from Judaism and Christianity.

Palestine was Palestine for a couple of thousand years. Israel came into existence after World War II.

Usually that would be Elohim, Jno.
Togo; Do you really believe that Jesus ascended into heaven? Squillions of years before Muhammed?
Question Author
naomi: "Palestine was Palestine for a couple of thousand years. Israel came into existence after World War II.
" - Palestine is the general name for the region, since over 1000BC, The Kingdom of Israel has existed more or less as long. Israel was not created after WW2 it was partially restored. Read the link:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Israel_(united_monarchy)
And the three monotheistic religions followed on from Zoroastrianism. And Gods know what preceded all of them!

Fridge-et Jones' Diary..

Whoops! :-) sorry.
And who lived in 'Israel' before 'Jews'?
“ How can Jerusalem even be relevant to Islam anyway, it's existed at least 3500 years longer that Islam.”

this question is a non sequitir
thank you, patsy...

TTT, yes, settlements in East Jerusalem.
non sequitur sorry
I suppose, if there were a god.... They would almost certainly have to organise his or her arrival and/or departure in an existing population centre. I suppose one of the most important cities at that time would be a suitable addition to the narrative, lots of witnesses, but especially literate ones who might 'record the event.. It's why a Christian second coming is likely to be envisaged somewhere a bit bigger and safer than Bethlehem.

As to the Israeli/ Palestinian problem... Wouldn't it be so much nicer if they took on board they are just men at the end of the day and work it out . Never going to happen though.
