Gary Glitter Released
after serving 8 of his 16 year sentence - do you think he could resurrect his music career? I still enjoy his records and would probably go to a gig if he did one locally. Or do you think he should be permanently outcast?

But at no time have I 'defended' Gary Glitter in any way shape or form.
Your statement that I have is incorrect, and you should withdraw it.
As for an apology, please don't imagine that I am so keen for you to do what is morally right, that I will bargain with you to persuade you.
It's nothing like important enough, and my apologies are like my position on art and artists, mine to decide.

Zacs - // here’s a massive difference between defending a paedophile and believing that he is somehow separate from his musical abilities, AH.
Your views are weird to say the least. //
None taken.
We can agree to differ, except I am not being rude to you because you see the situation differently from me.

Mozz - // I said that I believed your belief that those actions should be ignored when listening to his music to be indefensible. //
I never said his actions should be 'ignored' - once again you are seeing something that is not there in anything I have posted.
What I said, is what I have always said, and I am happy to repeat it since you missed it the first time around -
I believe that it is possible to separate the artist from the art.
That doesn't mean that I listen to Gary Glitter records and close my eyes to his actions.
What it does mean, is that because he has been found out to be an odious reptile of a human being does not, to me, diminish the enjoyment I find in listening to his records.
Now as I pointed out in my first post - that doesn't mean that millions of people around the world don't enjoy the music of Wagner, even though he was a profound anti-Semite.
Similarly, millions of people still laugh at the films of Charlie Chaplin, also fond of sex with under-age girls.
Or the films of Roam Polanski - convicted paedophile also.
Mel Gibson - convicted spouse abuser and anti'Semite
Bruno Mars - drug abuse
Jay-Zee - imprisoned for stabbing a man
Mike Tyson - convicted rapist
Cheryl Cole - convicted of assault
Just because Gary Glitter happens to be the most high-profile abuser does not make his music anything less than it has always been - you like it or you don't.
I absolutely accept that my view is not everyone's, but it is mine, and I am entitled to it, and not to have you arbitrarily decide, on no evidence whatsoever, that I defend Gary Glitter, or any of the above list - I don't.

No I understand that Andy, I do understand what you are talking about as obviously this has happened in the case of Michael Jackson but I find that understandable as he did record some great records, but GG was just a fad in the glam rock era, probably has no talent at all. I'm just surprised that a man of your standing as far as music is concerned would ever have liked that sort of stuff.

I try really hard not to be a music snob.
I don't always succeed, but I try.
I often find that I enjoy music that others find trite or pointless, and similarly I don;t like music that others think is the pinacle of artistry.
That means I think 'Saturday Night' by Whigfield is one of the best pop records I have ever heard, and Coldplay should be prevented from ever making any records ever again!!
That's part of the joy of art for me.
And although I am seriously in a minority, I don't allow the behaviour of any artist to stop me enjoying their art.
That is my only point on this thread - but you'd think I'd nominated Gary Glitter for a Grammy!!!!!
