I don't think so. This country cannot cope with more illegal immigrants. We just haven't got the capacity for them. And we need a really strong deterrent, but is this action strong enough by the govt? And will it work?
Lineker is a bit of a prat it has to be said. On the one hand he gets all righteously indignant about attempts to stop the boats and that he will "continue to speak up", and yet on the other he's perfectly happy to spend 6 weeks in Qatar, which has a dreadful record of treatment of people. If he was genuine, he would have refused to attend the World Cup and foregone the...
He should use his time to lecture the criminals who con migrants who are already in a safe country into paying money to risk there lifes by false promises if riches in uk...and he should encourage migrants not to go in boats and use legal asylum process in France or whetever
No, he's an ex-footballer who landed lucky and needs to be reminded of that.
If he wants to do politics there are ways he can proceed, big drop in wages though so he might shut up.
Going off at a slight tangent, I've never seen the value of the so-called experts. They just detract from the action. Maybe he should go into politics. I wouldn't mind if he did. I'm sure we'd see a lot less of him!
I've always believed that in a free country, such as ours, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Just as everyone is entitled to disagree with another's opinion.
The fact that he is a high-profile BBC employee ought to matter not a jot. I doubt there are few out there who hang on his every utterance.
I also think everyone is entitled to an opinion about anything. However, I dislike anyone, not only Lineker, who spouts off at the drop of a hat from a spotlit position. This could be through newspapers or public speaking but definitely not from a public broadcaster funded by us. He has an opinion against everything. I wonder if he just enjoys stirring the pot?

And i would agree with you had he made his comments on MOTD. But he didn't, he tweeted his opinion on his own Twitter account. Nowt to do with the BEEB, imho.
Bet he doesn't live anywhere near an inner city ghetto. Amazing all these wealthy individuals try to look like men of the people whilst cringing away in their ivory towers.
Gary Lineker is a member of an ever increasing band of people who, because they get, I'll not say earn, an exorbitant amount of money, have decided they are experts on everything and worse, entitled to spout off at every opportunity. My answer to both of your questions is I hope so but have my doubts.
Eye-catching legal so-called deterrents have been allowed to be tried due to the nation hating individuals who don't want us to control our own country. We have no control over who France allows to take to sea from their shore. We only have the option of trying to find a deterrent that the nation haters fail to prevent. Of course, while government chooses to be so foolish that we remain under control of foreign courts, they are unlikely to find such a solution. Which is why the only real way forward is for the present PM to quit and they get someone more capable in his place.
He's 100% entitled to his opinion but it does say he will be spoken to by the BBC, one of his employers and a supposedly unbiased corporation. They don't pay him to express his opinions on politics, religion etc. They pay him to talk about sport.
