Will You Be Joining The Chorus?
Answers
I swore my allegiance to "Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the second, her heirs and successors" when i was in the army, so i suppose i've already done so. I'm still dithering on whether or not to accept the invitation to the ceremony. I'm told that Chas has invited me because he doesn't want to be the only one wearing a Burnley FC shirt on the day.

and I say this as someone who doesn't think much of the National Gallery as it stands. It's one of the few things I agree with him about, though.

I won't be joining in this 'chorus. I'm not anti-monarchist & Charles means well (but I think he shouldn't tinker so much with procedure), it's just that it seems a bit 'naff' rather like all the clapping and banging pans for the nurses. I did't join in that either; if a nurse helped me or OH I thanked her or him personally for that action.
She now has passed, so has my allegiance.
(Marines - dont know much law unsurprisingly )
did the oaths contain "heirs and successors" ? - I think an oath of allegiance is like the cubby-wubbies ( once a cub and dyb dyb dyb, always a cub)
do I walk past an injured man and kick him, and say "Ha I used to have to stop and treat these specimens" ?
Police were invited to 're-new' their oaths, but that is because they are er different to Marines. The idea is to take the oath and mean it this time.

the text of the oath is apparently “I swear that I will pay true allegiance to your majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law. So help me God.”
So you're swearing allegiance to Andrew and Harry too. I like Harry, every family should have a rebel son (except mine), but no way I'm going to follow Andrew into battle in court.

Historically the only real time, it caused problems ( apart from the Queen Mother referring to her in-laws - - "where are the Huns") is in 1689, as those who adhered to WIlliam III HAD previously sworn allegiance to james II and so had to break it
big diffs even then with the "Anglican church as by parliament enacted".
