This is of particular interest and concern to me. Sadly RTC's are ten a penny in central London. This was my old group I worked with from 1980 to 1997 and I believe this is the first serious Personal Injury collision that the SEG have been involved with. I feel for the poor lady who was probably hit at considerable speed. I am sure the officer is devastated as well.

A very sad incident. We have highly trained Traffic Police Drivers in this country and fortunately these incidents are extremely rare. I feel extremely sorry for the officer concerned, who will have to give an account for his actions and if found guilty of any offences, they will be treated as any member of the public would. Three people including a four year old boy were killed in a RTC last night, not far from where we had a horrific accident 23 years ago. That brought it all back for us.
Something like that never leaves and really changes the survivors.

Tragic
Who was at fault? Plod or the badly injured pensioner?
The investigation will take weeks so at the moment, nobody knows.

I don’t know where fault lies. I have made enquiries via SEG liasion and await reply. Quite franklyI am more concerned about the health and welfare of the 80 year old lady.At her age the shock could be fatal especially hit at speed. The Accident Investigation team will determine their findings in due course. I know that junction so well as I used to escort the late Queen Elizabeth when in residence at Buckingham Palace every Friday rush hour to Windsor Castle for the weekend. It was a hairy escort in traffic and I just think ‘there but for the grace of God’ in hindsight.

I do, however, have concerns about those who drive everyday patrol cars. I once saw one come flying round a corner and almost hit a pedestrian on a Zebra Crossing. The crossing was very close to the Police Station, so they must have known it was there.

Retrocop worked protecting the Royal family in the 1990s. He was routinely armed.
so?
So that is why he is posting about this incident, he has inside knowledge of its workings.
what i meant was i can't see why you mentioned the routinely armed bit, or why you need to tell people that it was retro's old job as 1. no-one asked and 2. he clearly said it himself both in the title AND in the post.
Worst outcome. RIP Hellen Holland.

retrocop. I was first made aware of the SEG when I came across a documentary entitled 'Inconspicuous Ingenuity' made by Anthony Loveless and was impressed by the efficiency and skill of the riders. have you seen it? I guess it's possible you even took part. I was so intrigued by the whole process that I bought the book 'Escorting the monarch' written by Chris Jagger whose father is a retired SEG officer. Again a fascinating insight into the beginnings and development of this team. The ladies death is I believe the first fatal incident involving the group. My condolences to all concerned in this very sad affair.
