Clearly it would have swollen as much, and most likely more, had we not had Brexit

a fine hypothetical, but what's actually happened is that we have had Brexit and immigration has still shot up.
No reason why it shouldn't. Especially with tbe EU, France, not preventing illegal immigrants risking their lives in unsuitable boats, nor arresting those in the illegal trade supplying the opportunity.
//we have had Brexit and immigration has still shot up.//

It always seem to be the remainers who cant understand the differnt types of immigration.

Of course immigration would have been higher if members of the EU were allowed to waltz in as they pleased - criminals included but how on earth do you think Brexit would stop people from Albania for instance coming? Of course it wouldnt, they are illegal.

Do you really not understand the difference or are you just being obtuse?

it doesn't matter what type of immigration when you're fretting about the population figures. If you want the population to stop rising, about half of it will have to be stopped.

There were about 1.2 immigrants last year, about a tenth of them illegal which means nine tenths were legal. (Also about half a million emigrants.)
1.2 million, of course.

Mostly students and their dependents. The government is aiming to stop first degree students from bringing their families. The universities won't be happy at a probable loss of income.
you need a rising population to keep the pension system going. All those people having 1.2 children need someone else's children to be working and contributing to the pot.
//it doesn't matter what type of immigration when you're fretting about//

Eh?

Your happy with illegal immigration I suppose. Not that I am surprsied given many of your far left posts on here.
Foreign students can & do bring their families ?????? Surely not ! One goes to uni at least partly to get some independence. No; the government can't possibly be allowing any such loophole as it would have been closed immediately parliament realised how daft they'd been.
//you need a rising population to keep the pension system going. All those people having 1.2 children need someone else's children to be working and contributing to the pot.//

Yes, and I'm sure you have seen the posts Inhave written where I say that.

However it needs to be controlled so that infrastructure can be built to accommodate them (and non not just houses the whole lot).

And as the the contributing yes, but this is where your wish for illegals falls down. By their very definition they cannot contribute, they have to live under the radar often (in the case of teh Albanians) peddling drugs. But perhaps you are ok with that too?
Mr Sunak is trying to close that loophole as we speak OG.

Expect SKS and his cronies to attempt to scupper it though,
No one needs a rising population and since the world, or any nation, can't sustain that, it can't be considered as any solution to anything. At all times, for every generation, the fit of working age has to generate sufficient wealth to run society without demanding outside help. With the number of unemployed that has existed in the past, there should be no issue getting sufficient workers needed for the future without resorting to net immigration. In fact it has to.
what is your stance on all this, ymb? Sunak's made it clear he wants all immigration to be reduced, but just to less than half a million a year (what he "inherited") - do you?

For the umpteenth time Brexit was all about immigration be it legal , illegal by boat or submarine.
.............Brexit was all about Immigration. Get it...

So half the voters went for Brexit for one, and only one, reason?
‘ Lord Ashcroft's election day poll of 12,369 voters also discovered that 33%of them said the main reason was that leaving "offered the best chance for the UK to regain control over immigration and its own borders."'
bazwillrun, play the ball, not the player.
> Also about half a million emigrants.

Strange how they're hardly ever mentioned. What types of people are departing our wonderful country, and where are they going?
doctors to Australia, for a start. Apparently if they work overtime they get paid overtime - the very thought!
