The sister of the poor victim of this awful murder has just been on the news. Despite this , I knew nothing of the fact that Minto is eligible for parole.

The petition will expire at midnight and at the minute is struggling for votes.

Really?

Just cant believe that, as the Moors Murderers jury were required to listen to tapes of murder and depravity and shown pictures of
unimaginable horror.

If the prosecution decided it was unnecessary to show the jury the pictures, then there was no need to show them. Very often showing graphic scenes does more harm than good. Clearly, a conviction resulted despite the lack of such photographs.

In some cases, they are necessary - but each case will depend on its unique facts.

The CPS is corrupt.
10 years ago I got found guilty in a crown court of an offence which absolutly did not happen.
The ONLY thing that would of got me of is a knife with my own blood on it...
It was destroyed before my trial 10 month later, along with any DNA.
The judge told the jury that ''occasionally these things happen''
''Occasionally'' ???
Like its an everyday thing that knives with peoples blood on them go missing when a case against the police is involved???

Although it hasn't reached the 100,000 signatures to be considered for a debate in Parliament, it has passed the 10,000 needed for the Government to give a response.

There is a twenty-eight day period during which anyone can provide very basic details of the case and ask the Attorney General (AG) to consider making an appeal against the sentence.

Is four week not a reasonable period to allow the request and for the AG to make the referral?

NailedIt - you are of course entitled to think that what I say is absolute tosh. But the reality is that if awful photographs are not necessary for proof, they will not always be used. In my early days, I sat with a Circuit Judge and it was often the case that (for example) dreadful child pornography images were not shown to the Jury. Much depends on how the defence is run and what that defence is.

I cannot comment on your own case. I can, however, say that in my years being briefed by the CPS or acting against them, I never once saw any evidence of corruption. Indeed, in one case, where it was clear the police officer was bang out of order as a result of my cross examination, (I was defending) the CPS lawyer himself made a report on the officer's behaviour and I was copied in on that report.

The trial for the Moors murders was more than fifty year ago.

Perhaps the ways that some jurors are effected by listening to or viewing certain types of evidence are better understood and if other, less disturbing evidence can be presented, why not do so?

I can only thank you for your integrity.
My own experience of the law has been one of
the police telling lies (or at least over egging the pudding).
Or the CPS getting rid of evidence

95% Of my convictions have been justified, the other 5% havn't.
I have served time for things which simply did not happen.
But who is a magistrate (or judge) going to believe?
A drunk or a copper?

TCL - The sister explained that the loss of her sister, the circumstances of that loss and the harrowing trial rendered the family numb for quite some little while. By the time they had sorted themselves out the 28 days had passed.

nailedit - after having given us the benefit of your 'in court' experience, I hope you signed the petition and accept the fact that Barmaid will have forgotten more of the legal system than you will ever have learnt.
