I cannot understand why this Government that is failing on every metric - economic, health and immigration, is so appreciated on AB. We have had 3 years (or 13 years) of failure, and they blame me and gully for stymying the Government. Too much nonsense here to answer all but ...

The French should care, whether the UK is in the EU or not, because they should want to be decent neighbours rather than dregs of society, and they have a duty of care regarding stopping folk risking their lives in unsuitable boats, to start with.

Not being in power for x years does not give anyone immunity from wrong doing, which is what needs answering, as per the thread title..

And while on the subject, it should be obvious that an opposition plus an obstinate HoL, plus pressure groups trying to cause issues for the nation, can easily combine to obstruct the will of government. Not that the government are all behind doing the right thing anyway, what with an apparent desire to bend over for global groups' demands, and the lack of guts to leave the ECHR and trigger article 16 to rejig the NI border issue. Right bunch the lot of them. But none of that lets Starmer off the hook. It is clear he has a lot to answer for, regarding his personal activities with groups trying the thwart the will of the people. There is no need of apologists for him.

@22.46.Oh,come off it OG.These people are here now(and i cant see them being removed any time soon).At present up here in Aberdeen they are living in five star luxury at our expense-meanwhile my company is screaming out for unskilled workers such as these,but the government doesnt allow these people to work here.Are we mad or something?These people are getting paid £9.58 a week for doing nothing while they could be contributing to the country rather than taking out.Rant over,im away to my bed.Kisses from miffy.

people are entering this country illegally because there is no safe and legal route to enter this country for the purposes of claiming asylum... they do however have the right to apply for asylum once they arrive even if they do so illegally and yes even if they came from france.. if you want to stop the illegal boat crossings then the best way to do it is to allow asylum applications for this country to be made on the other side of the channel... that will work and "deterrence" will not

gromit is correct about the rwanda scheme... it is not intended to work. it is intended to fail publicly so that the tories can blame human rights legislation and make that the central issue of their 2024 election campaign... they couldn't give a hoot about anything else!

Most people seem to be living in dreamland. Put illegal immigrants to work? In jobs that no-one else wants? In jobs that companies can't fill? Ok then, just send them off to a job, but don't expect them to return. They'll just disappear and earn a living under the radar, probably criminally.

Asylum seekers can also apply for permission to work.

Gulliver, if we're talking about the same post, it wasn't 'News' and the mod who removed it (and it wasn't me) gave you 15 minutes to copy it and post it elsewhere. 'Politics' was suggested. The post wasn't on the same subject - it was about people who you claimed voted Brexit solely because they objected to immigration. If you didn't take advantage of the offer you have no one to blame but yourself. Stop stirring.
