My rumour circle alerts me that there will be a mass surrendering of firearms authority cards from those officers SHOULD the outcome be a guilty verdict at the trial.  We want them, we need them and we should back them.  But as stated here many times - don't pre-judge, let us wait and see.

I hope the family gets the outcome they want.

I would not want to be a police officer in the current climate.

What a dreadful situation, one day a serving police officer, the next on a murder charge. If you are an armed response cop it must now be a worrying job to have, do i, or do i not fire, anf while they are thinking about it, it could be then who die.

Unless I've missed something in that report we don't know why the officer fired.

Well if he's been charged with murder the CPS seem to agree he shouldnt have do so. Buy all yet to be proven.

But all yet.^^

Done so^^

'Page cannot be found', Corby.

Cross posted, Corby, but that doesn't say any more than the original link.  It doesn't tell us why the officer fired.

Did you try the link in my latest post?

Yes.  Did I miss something?

As I understand it the ANPR flagged the car up as linked to a previous firearm offence

This gives more details but not the reason for the shot being fired.

Whatever reason given by the officer involved, the CPS decided it was not justified in the circumstances, hence the murder charge.

Unless we know why the officer fired it's impossible to say whether or not we feel a charge of murder is appropriate.  The court will no doubt be presented with all the facts.

Still doesnt explain why he shot him.

Lets wait for the Court case to complete before speculating.

Thanks Gromit.  So the officer stood in front of the vehicle and shot the driver through the windscreen.  I do hope we find out his reasoning.

Seems like deja vu to me.Almost exactly the same sequence of events that occurred in Barnes in the 1990s. The police officer was a former firearms instructor who was in a ARV with a WPS i/c. They saw a vehicle outside a convenience store on one side of Hammersmith bridge . It had one occupant (driver) and the passenger entered the store. The registration matched a car circulated previously as involved in armed robberies. The sergeant drove across the front of the stationery car and PC Pat Hodgson stood in front of the suspect vehicle. The driver tried ramming the police car to make an escape and the officer,'fearing for his life' fired a double shot through the windscreen. The driver died later in Queen Mary's hospital . PC Hodgson was charged with murder and after a trial at the CCC was acquitted. I remember that day as if yesterday. They bought PC Hodgson to the nearby base I operated from and he was grey in the face.He was placed in a room incommunicado until investigators interviewed him under caution.
