The arrival of Hamas in Gaza though changed everything: I keep saying it: Hamas is funded by Iran - as is Hezbollah in Lebanon. Somehow break that and you have a chance. It's pointless hoping Palestinians will renounce violence when for most is not in their power to do so. Nothing Israel does will help so long as they are faced with an enemy in Iran which wants to destroy it.
15:12 yes I do know the history.

"The Israel state today is just a recreation of that which existed nearly 4000 years before Islam was even thought of"
Well, not really: I'm all in favour of the Israeli state but the tragedy of it is that they'd not been there for centuries having edited or been driven awa so there are multiple claims to the land in the meantime.
Accept a simple premise. The Hammas are Islamic and the creed of all Islamics is to make the world Islamic. All areas of Islam from the man who just murdered some football supporters to Hammas who have thrown arms into the Israeli State with abandon - all funded by another Jew hating nation, Iran. This 'problem' will never, ever be resolved with peace talks or negotiation, with or without a mediator. This current situation will be put to bed with much force on Israel's part - for the time being. In ten years time they will be re-armed and the Country, to some extent re-built. BUT the festering issue of an Islamic world will still be there and resurface again.
The most disturbing, but understandable, tv comment I saw the other night was a Jewish elder stating that ' We will never see 1940 again, no matter what. And be reminded we are a nuclear State.'
Sandy, I agree with you that the Palestinians have been treated unfairly. Their land was stolen and given to Israel.
Since then there has never been real peace in the region. Both sides are as bad as the other.
No matter what side you support - the recent actions of Hamas was unacceptable.
Yet, the Israeli government has, I feel, made a terrible situation worse by further punishing civilians in Gaza instead of targeting only the terrorists.
Now that the US has poked its nose into the equation the situation can only get worse.
The Star Trek view of the future where we are all living in peaceful harmony isn't going to happen. As a species we are doomed,
wolf: "Yet, the Israeli government has, I feel, made a terrible situation worse by further punishing civilians in Gaza instead of targeting only the terrorists." - So once again you conflate targetting civvies with colateral damage. So accidentally hitting civilians is the same a deliberated beheading babies is it? right oh!

Problem is,that is precisely what Iran is trying to be. Israel knew that and wanted to take out their nuclear programme during the Iraq war and the allies pleaded with Israel not to do so. Israel acceeded to their wishes. God knows why.
