Expired Railcard Offence Goes To Court ?

I have some sympathey with this guy because for many years the Railcard providers used to send out renewal reminders.  They have recently ceased this practice - fortunately I spotted mine at the last renewal and proceeded accordingly, otherwise but for the grace of God. . . . . . .

I put all renewal and expiry dates in my online calendar and set notifications.  It only takes a few seconds, I won't rely on getting postal reminders

He is a silly silly boy and it is very like fixed fines or fixed penalties - they mount up and bite you

if you try "whoopsie thought I  had paid" line there may be trouble ahead.

( 50 y ago a uni student in his first y, borrow !ed a card to buy a rail ticket and then gave the card back to the user. So  he didnt have it when the ticket was checked. oops  ! got a criminal record for dishonesty before age 20. we all went christ we wont do that)
