They are limited to trying to spot support for Hamas, which is plainly an offence. But difficult anyway to prove I'd have thought in some cases.
Criticism of the police is misplaced and counterproductive in my view. I understand why people get frustrated but those frustrations should not be allowed to boil over. They nearly did yesterday, but thanks to ... the police ... they did not. Maybe next time they'll be allowed to police the antisemites better. As it was they faced chants of "You're not English" (or Scottish? Welsh? or does that not count?) from morons who had I'm sorry to say possibly been listening to the Home Secretary of all people
Yesterday was the third stop the war Saturday march in a row.
There was so little wrong with the first two that there was not enough evidence to stop the third one. Yet Suella Braverman classified it as a hate march, setting up yesterday's march as a bigger problem for the police to deal with.
Even then, the evidence after the fact is that it was not a hate march. The main hate, the main arrests, came from the so-called anti-protesters.
So Braverman was completely wrong, stirred up the far right, and made the Met's job more difficult. But she won't resign, because that would weaken her; and Sunak won't sack her, because that would strengthen her.
So politics loses again ... it really is in the mire.
Ellipsis: "Even then, the evidence after the fact is that it was not a hate march. " - really?
