Ichkeria, //She's a very unpopular figure with most voters //

I think you're way wide of the mark.   I truly suspect they've shot themselves in the foot with this one.  I'm now seriously deliberating on what to do next polling day.

Is this the thread that says Cameron is a Lord?

he cant be and be an MP....

Naomi is very wise indeed _ I dont want to be deleted this time. and yes I agree, I think firing her ( Braverman) has spelt the end of the party  ( in power)

He's not an MP.

O god he is! - a lord  - - - dubble sozza

Last foreign secretary as a Lord was Carrington ( Thatcher 1979) and it was a disaster ( loss of the Falklands).

Lord Curzon turned down the premiership in 1936 as he did not think a Lord should be PM - no way to question him, as in PMQ. hem hem.

Last PM - Lord was Salisbury

hey everybardy - one of my posts has lasted longer than three minutes !

the mods are wise beyong solomon ( Rumpole sort of)

If Sunak was a coward he would not have taken all the flack when he gave her a second chance, she failed again, so you cant keep supporting such, unlike Boris did.

Would you ever vote Tory nicebloke?

And what many on the left are missing is that many tories I have spoken to this morning are even more disgusted by the appointment of a non MP and failed PM.

It's a double whammy almost as if Sunak was offered a job by Musk - bit like Clegg.

tory party faithful are a very small fraction of the wider tory vote... as ichkeria says it is a similar problem to the corbynite/momentum group. popular in party does not mean popular in country

Question Author

Braverman appeared to be popular even to the far right (that includes anyone slightly right of Corbyn now)

Same quaetion to you Untitled.

Would you ever vote Tory?

no lol but i am not suggesting the party needs to win my vote... i just think braverman is less popular than you think she is

i know how it feels... i am to the left of most voters and like many politicians who are not very popular (i like corbyn, i like ed milliband, i like angela rayner but i understand most people do not)... unfortunately one must learn to separate your admiration for someone and their wider popularity among more "normal" voters

Yes, this is all very well, but the trajectory of Home Secretaries since 1997 suggests the next one is going to be a mix of Voldemort and Frank Spencer.

it's james cleverly sp

a man with a very tragic misnomer lol

Gawd! Another Home Secretary determined to stop small boats.

Braverman out, Cleverly across, Cameron in ... but is anybody happy?

Question Author

Esther McVey...she's happy

I mean the right, the left, the centre ... ??? I suppose the centre is the happiest, but that doesn't mean that they're happy ...

it's james cleverly sp . a man with a very tragic misnomer lol

as in He does things, Cleverly

er no he doesnt.

the opposite of nominative determinism ( surname describes the man. Mr Tooth the dentist, Mr Foot the cobbler.

Like having - Mr Skint the Chancellor, or Mr Last , the Prime Minister - Lord North PM 1762-83 who lived in the South or the famous Mr Merrydown, who was stuck up a chimney in a lunatic asylum....
