The definition of destitution being that you are lacking at least two of the following essentials:-

Housing, heat, light, food, appropriate clothing, toiletries.

Something the current government should be very ashamed of.

Rubbish.

Completely agree naomi

We'd better let the thousands coming here in dinghies know how bad things are here. Maybe they'd be better off in Rwanda after all, eh?

Maybe we should let Hymie tell them how bad it is here and that they would be better off staying in the EU countries.  It will save him telling us the same thing day after day.  Surprised he hasn't used the word Brexit in this thread yet.

How are we defining "destitution" here?

"Note: People are considered destitute if they have lacked two or more of the following six essentials over the past month because they cannot afford them:

Shelter (they have slept rough for one or more nights).

Food (they have had fewer than two meals a day for two or more days).

Heating their home (they have been unable to heat their home for five or more days).

Lighting their home (they have been unable to light their home for five or more days).

Clothing and footwear (appropriate for the weather).

Basic toiletries (such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and a toothbrush).

OR

if their income is so extremely low that they are unable to purchase these essentials for themselves."

8 billion people on the planet and 2.8 Million living in Africa, India, Pakistan and china and other countries are better off than the UK.

Lol.

Hymie under attack again - must be because he's made a good point.

As the Iron Lady said,"I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left."

Britain spent 231.4 billion last year on the benefit system, maybe some of the people getting that did not spend it wisely, you can live without booze, cigs, drugs, and smart phones it's time someone told them how to spend their benefits correctly.

Canary, but you're attacking hymie's opponents.  Where's your political argument?

canary: "Hymie under attack again" - no one has attacked hymie. They are challenging his assertion but is that not the purpose of his discusion here?

canary: //As the Iron Lady said,"I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left.// - well that may apply if anyone actually attacked hymie personally.

You forgot big-screen tellies and foreign holidays, fripfrip.

Bet they all have mobile phones, alcohol and ciggies as well as their 50"+ tellies eh?

//...it's time someone told them how to spend their benefits correctly...//

Tell me please if that includes all the greedy elderly. Time to ship them all out to sea

Yep,so sorry,also forgot tattoos,takeaway food,and multipack crisp.

No it does not include the elderly,he said in the interview that people are suffering from scurvy because they can not pay for fresh fruit and are eating processed food because it's cheaper i disagree with him,a bag of crisps is £1,a single apple40p,a banana15p,1 large orange at our local market 40p.he's wrong and like i said it's lazy parents to blame, can't cook will not cook,in my opinion.

This is interesting from the EU.

There are about 68M people in the UK. 3.8M would be 5½%. Or around 1 in 19. Clearly unbelievable in a nation with a welfare state such as the UK.

Unless of course all the 3.8 millions of illegal immigrants who disappear on reaching here are hiding under the bed at Gary Lineker's house without anything to their name.

How many ABers here tonight feel that they are living in destitution?
