National Identity Cards .
The UK last had Compulsary Identity cards cards during WW2. But they were finally withdrawn by Churchhill in 1952 and have never been used since. And most Brits don't want them. But suddenly they have been introduced again by the present Tory Govt but only when you go to the polling station Why! I ask.

'Speaking at the National Conservatism conference in Westminster, Mr Rees-Mogg said: "Parties that try and gerrymander end up finding their clever scheme comes back to bite them, as dare I say we found by insisting on voter ID for elections.
"We found the people who didn't have ID were elderly and they by and large voted Conservative, so we made it hard for our own voters and we upset a system that worked perfectly well.'
He was claiming it was introduced to benefit the Tories but it backfired.
All I asked for was gulliver to provide a link to what he claimed . He still has failed to do so. It is customary, when making announcements to provide a link. Why can he not do so.?
As always the TCL has to come to his rescue. Thanks TCL but in future could you please allow gulliver to answer for himself otherwise we might consider he constantly needs a wet nurse to look after him when posting fairy tales on the site.
No TCL. It wasn't a fairy story and I apologise to gulliver for accusing him of making up the story which he so often does.
He is,however, still stupid enough to believe what JRM says. JRM is a maverick and there can be no advantage to either party for possessing photo ID at the polls.
Susan Hall, the Tory London Mayoral candidate was issuing instructions to her hopeful Tory electorate how to apply for a Voting ID card as she realised that more senior voters may have long since hung up their driving gloves,do not possess a photo Driving Licence or indeed a valid passport.
The notion that gulliver believes and claims it gives the Tories an advantage is fanciful and ridiculous as is most of his posts. I will concede and apologise to him and that JRM also made this stupid statement.
Plenty of EU countries have I.D cards, some compulsary. not just to vote.

Because government/parliament is a control freak. Politicians like to claim they went in to improve things but most only mean their career, and likely all enter for the ability to push their agenda, regardless of who the trample over to do it. ID cards is a monitoring thing, you will prove yourself to the government by showing your papers and obeying without question (and be happy whether you like it or not).
