National Identity Cards .

The UK last had Compulsary Identity cards cards during WW2. But they were finally withdrawn by Churchhill in 1952 and have never been used since. And most Brits don't want them. But suddenly they have been introduced again by the present Tory Govt but only when you go to the polling station  Why! I ask.

Compusory Identity Cards have not been introduced. Proof of identity for elegibility to vote has been introduced which includes D/L Passports,Blue Badge etc. It is not a compulsory National ID Card.

I would be happy to carry one,especially if it was not easily forged, and proved my right to residence in the UK. I was obliged to carry a warrant card both on or off duty for 30 years and it didn't weigh me down too heavily.😁

Shocking isn't it. I had to produce my ID when I collected a parcel from the Post Office the other day. And then when I tried to fly to Spain they wouldn't believe who I was and asked me for ID at passport control. Cheek of it. And my bank ask me to prove who I am when I want to discuss my account. And even at work I have to show my ID pass to get into the building even though the commissionaire knows me well. What's the world coming to eh, gulliver?

Why have the Tories implemented this new identity rule  for polling stations. ?It is obviously to their advantage or they would not have done it.

If all voters are required to produce proof of identity, it's not to to any one party's advantage.

Probably because some members of the electorate ,have in the past,constantly voted when they are not who they say they are and used multiple ballot papers etc etc. i.e electoral fraud.

Perhaps after these disasterous local election results the Tories will bring in the rule of no one over the age of 65 can vote in the General Election  unless accompanied by both Parents.

Our ward now has a green councillor for the first time along with an independent. The Conservative candidates' election literature didn't have the word "Conservative" - tellingly
