Not sure his heart is in it anymore. His party doesn't want him, so off to Silicon Valley sharpish.

So who will lead the party with no majority or in opposition?

I also think that Sunak's heart is in it - and if one could reel back several years he might have had a chance.  But I can't see it now.  I don't want him  (enforcement of smoking ban, thereby removing personal automony, and forcing kids to learn maths until 18, misery to the Arts bunch, are absolute sticking points)- but I don't want Starmer. Hey ho.... we shall see.

Next Conservative leader will be Sunak - until he resigns if they lose (and I do think there is an 'if' in there).

They'll either lurch to the right and elect a nutter like Braverman, or more likely stay relatively normal and it'll be Mordaunt or someone similar.

Extraordinary but true - some furious Conservative MPs are tonight working on a plot to CALL OFF the general election by replacing Rishi Sunak as leader before Parliament is dissolved next Thursday. One rebel Tory MP tells me he believes “several” more letters of no confidence in Sunak have been submitted to 1922 chairman Sir Graham Brady. The senior Conservative MP told me: “Today has clearly been an absolute disaster but the election is NOT irrevocable; up until the point of the Dissolution of Parliament - when the writs are moved to begin the contests, it can still be aborted. “In other words, if enough Tory MPs, who are clearly going to lose their seats in this already utterly shambolic campaign, write to Sir Graham Brady, tomorrow , the election could still be revoked.”

20:13, personally I'm not bothered who wins as long as the Conservative party loses (and that naturally means Labour, as no other party has a realistic chance).

The fact remains, no matter what history says, over the past few years, the Tories have made a right pig's ear of things. Change is needed. Whether they screw it up with even great ineptitude remains to be seen.
