My Grandaughter had sores on the corner of her mouth, plus itchy spots over her face, (nowhere else) I sent pics to the doctor who prescribed her cold sore cream, she has been using it for 4 days now and no sign of them clearing up, I am going to contact gp again tomorrow, but in the mean time does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Could be impetigo

I would give it a bit longer.  Four days isn't very long

On their first appearance, cold sores typically take around three weeks to heal.  When they reappear at a later date (as they almost invariably do), they might then only take around a week or so to clear up.

Cold sore creams, such as those containing acyclovir or penciclovir, can reduce the severity of symptoms but they typically only reduced healing times by just one day.

So, if this is the first time that your granddaughter has had cold sores, the expected healing time might be around three weeks.  If so, it's unsurprising that there's been little improvement over just four days.

My first reaction is 'impetago'.  I had it aged c.11.  There was a horrible, flakey, crusty area.

Could be hives.  Could be anything.  Nobody on here can answer your question (I don't think it's impetigo though)  Keep going with the cream and get professional advice from someone who has actually seen the spots.

I used to get painful cracks in the corners of my mouth if I was very stressed. It took a while to find out, but if I take Vit B2 it clears up in in a day or two. If you buy Multi Vit B pills, make sure theycontain B2 as some do not.
