Untitled - // going and living in a cave as you put it won't do anything. //

That saves you the tedious task of having the courage of your convictions then.

// activism has a chance of pressuring the high-emission part of society and also governments into changing. //

The government you need to be pressuring is China, who are constructing coal-fired power stations at an average of more than one a week.

Pop over there and try spraying orange paint on some of their treasured monuments, I'm sure they will be happy to listen to your views of you draw their attention to them in your tried and trusted way.

Just because some ecomaniacs don't like the fact that some people use private jets gives them no right whatsoever to vandalise other people's property.

Most private jet owners could, if they chose to, book a standard flight alternative. Not that, that is any excuse for vandalism.

untitled is delighted to ignore the hundreds of private jets that bring international talking heads to international talking shops which achieve absolutly nothing whatsoever, while China refuses to attend, and why on earth would they? They don't care.

"That saves you the tedious task of having the courage of your convictions then"

how much activism have you done andy hughes? i'm not interested in your pontifications on courage if you've never actually gone out and stood up for something

"The government you need to be pressuring is China, who are constructing coal-fired power stations at an average of more than one a week."

the state brutalises them and represses them in a way that you would seem to approve of

Please don't put words in my mouth, supporting violence is your business,  not mine.

untitled 12:14, if we are talking about stopping a bond villain getting a Nuke then I agree. You cannot seriously be grouping people rich enough to have a private jet in that bracket! Perlease, what about those people with boats the size of the isle of man at Monaco? the more you deny you are a commie the more you demonstrate you are. Are you saying no one should have a private jet or that no one should ever be rich enough to afford one?

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, TTT.  No one should ever be rich enough to afford one - the same old politics of envy.

Untitled does seem to have a sixth form view of the world.

a private jet costs a minimum of $2 million to buy and have ongoing costs of $500,000-$1 million per year (figures from a site called lunajets). meanwhile the pollution generated by people who own them is extraordinarily high and that affects everyone on earth. this is not your aunt who owns a holiday home, it's a plutocrat. I do not think the aspiration to own your own jet is one that should be rewarded or encouraged. it is like someone saying they want to own serfs or copyright the moon.

you call me a communist and yet seem to love china's attitude to climate protestors (and muslims) and have also expressed a desire to see them sent to gulags. hypocrisy much?

untitled would you answer my question at 14:30.

I asked on the other thread  JSO what JSO suggests we replace oil with.  Do they have a viable alternative - and if it really is viable why aren't we using it?

"Are you saying no one should have a private jet or that no one should ever be rich enough to afford one?"

no one should have one, with the possible exception of heads of state/government for obvious security reasons.

Because the control freaks say they shouldn't.  That's a slippery slope, untitled.

untitled: "you call me a communist and yet seem to love china's attitude to climate protestors (and muslims) and have also expressed a desire to see them sent to gulags. hypocrisy much?" - it's not black and white they do have some good ideas. They could teach the west a lot about dealing with terrorists and moronic eejits.

14:51, so presumably they are allowed to be rich enough but not to actually buy one. Do you have a more comprehensive list of things that they should not be allowed to buy?

why is "not black and white" when you say these things and if I even breathe a leftwing opinion you call me a communist? i know what communism is. i understand it better than you do because i have taken the time to actually read a bit of marx, lenin, bukharin. i can tell you hand on heart that i do not subscribe to communist ideology. i disagree with it. however i am on the left. it's not hard!

14:57 but your outpourings mimic it perfectly. People should not be able to buy what they want. No one should have more than they need etc etc.

you don't think people should be able to buy whatever they want surely toratoratora? you surely do believe that there are limits on what people should be allowed to buy?

yes I do within the parameters of what is sensible. They should not be able to buy things that are obviously dangerous and those are restricted anyway. Other chattels fair enough.
