A 61 year old Englishman is sentenced to 18 months in prison for saying "who the f is Allah?"

While in the same country, "From the River to the sea" (meaning the total destruction of the Jews) was projected onto Big Ben and nobody was prosecuted.

i'm pleased that people are being punished well for a change!

Some people are.

Threaten a bust driver with a zombie knife, you are free to walk the streets after sentencing.

Take the mick out of the police, jail is quite possible.

Until they come for you. You do not have to be guilty, just accused. You can be on remand for many years awaiting trial.

when did innocent until proven guilty die out?

on remand for years? most people get  bail.  Currently people are not getting bail (in relation to rioting) but they are being dealt with quickly

Dealt with by a two-tiered system.

"...when did innocent until proven guilty die out?"

It didn't as far as I am aware, david.

Those who have been dealt with quickly pleaded guilty. Those who have entered not guilty pleas have either been released on bail or remanded in custody (in which case their matter will be subject to "custody time limits").

but dont let facts get it the way david

Mr Spring isn't the only one;

Army veteran Gary Harkness, 51, was sentenced this week to a year in prison by the Plymouth Crown Court for being present and “making a nuisance of himself” during disorder in Plymouth’s city centre, the Daily Mail reports.

Harkness, who suffers from PTSD from his time in the Army, was reportedly drunk during the riot, however, Judge Robert Linford admitted: “You are the person that provides me with the most difficulty because it cannot be levelled that you hit anyone, neither have you thrown anything, neither is it said that you spat at anybody.”

The veteran told the court that he was “not a racist” and claimed to have no political affiliation. Yet, the judge ultimately determined that “anybody party to this disorder has to receive a custodial sentence.”

Who are these judges ?

he pleaded guilty!

From the BBC report

Gary Harkness, 51, of North Road West, who the court heard has nine previous convictions for 14 offences, was sentenced to 12 months for his part in the disorder.

Lewis Aldous, prosecuting, said Harkness could be seen at least eight times on bodyworn camera footage “front and centre” of the far-right protestors, and he later told police he had been drinking and was “steaming drunk and absolutely annihilated”.

Judge Linford said Harkness, who served in the Army and suffered from PTSD, had “encouraged others” but had not hit, thrown or spat at anyone.

i get totally fed up of hearing people moan that the court system doesnt hand out stern setences, and that they are soft, then also moan when tough sentences are handed out to people who have pled guilty

Stern at the wrong time, while others are treated more leniency for more serious activities. That is the issue from the comparison. And pleading guilty is probably something they were advised to di by lawyers knowing it wasn't going to go well otherwise. It didn't seem to do them much good though.

whether you are advised by a lawyer to, or whether you decide on your own, if you've plead  guilty, you are guilty.

are you expecting the government to go back topeople who've been treated with more leniency in the past and change the law so their sentences can be increased?

i presume that the other people you mention treated with more leniency were convicted during the previous govt?  if so, that's hardly labour's fault

"And pleading guilty is probably something they were advised to di by lawyers knowing it wasn't going to go well otherwise."

The fact there were multiple witnesses and CCTV/body-camera evidence available might have had something to do with the advice given.

When I saw the title I thought the Tories must be back with the gaping Rich and Poor divide.

No canary- the divides we'll see growing is between pensioners and workers/unemployed/otherbenefit recipients; and between public sector (where wage demands are more likely to be met and jobs are safe) and private sector (where employers can only pay what they afford.

The gap between rich and poor will probably always continue to widen, regardless of who the government is.

Wayne O’Rourke, of Salix Approach, Lincoln, was arrested on Sunday afternoon, Lincolnshire Police said.

The charge relates to posts made from a social media account, the force added.

Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard the posts were alleged to contain anti-Muslim and anti-establishment rhetoric.

anti-establishment rhetoric?

Looks like we're there.

One expects the system not to make such errors in the first place; and to expect justified criticism if they do.

Shock horror ... some people can't understand what's wrong.

A police officer used to be uninsultable.

Both my Ma and Pa, whilst in uniform, just had to suck-up whatever verbals were thrown at them. Their senior officers would have laughed them out of the station had they gone in complaining that someone had thrown 'hurty-words' at them.
