It seems he has a 75 year lease on the place left to him by the Queen, but the King is planning to cease payment for his security.

What I don't understand is that his security team of ten people is said to cost £3m a year. That's £300k (or £6k per week) for each of them. Are they perhaps being a little overpaid?

Can we not discuss this over dinner?

//As the Royal Family engages in their usual activities at Balmoral, such as grouse shooting, salmon fishing, and picnics, the fate of Royal Lodge and whether Prince Andrew will continue to live there hangs in the balance.//

NJ, I think this sum would include everything needed for protection.  Would have to cover vehicles, communications, armaments, food, board, travel issues - everything a team would need to do the job.  The list would be endless.

A more welcome heading for this item would be ' Royal family to be evicted to Rwanda ' think there's lots of prepaid accommodation over there looking for residents, bit to much to hope for I guess, but I remain hopeful..

He has his RN pension to fall back on.

What kind of a place in London could he rent with that?

It's not like he's being made homeless, or thrown out on the street.

Alternative residence available.

"NJ, I think this sum would include everything needed for protection."

Very probably, paul. But I still think £6k a week is a bit of a stretch.

You can't break down the costs per week. There will be wages and running costs as inputs but also capital  inputs like cars, personal protection equipment etc. This figure will be what HMRC are told are inputs 😂😂😂

Go on then, NJ, how much would you charge to be expected to possibly lay down your life for someone? Especially someone who isn't particularly liked.

He could be offered a bothyIn a remote corner of the Balmoral Estate on the understanding he never went near the big house.

"Go on then, NJ, how much would you charge to be expected to possibly lay down your life for someone?"

That isn't the issue, Ken.

I would be very surprised if the ten people providing this service received £6k a week. As paul says, there are other costs to consider, but much of those are capital costs (vehicles, equipment, communcations, etc.) which can either be removed and used elsewhere or retained for somebody other than the Grand Old Duke of York. In any case, costs of that nature which are attributable solely to guarding the Royal Lodge should be spread over their lifetime, no charged in the single year they are purchased.

Just for comparison (because I know the Royal Lodge security services are not provided by the police) there were reports a few years ago of police Royal Protection Officers being paid £100,000 per year. But this was a result of them receiving an allowance that had been discontinued but reinstated following a court case. The £100k included that allowance backdated seven or eight years.

It was just a throwaway remark. I find it quite incredible that a security exercise that employs just ten people should cost £60,000 a week.

He probably had a nice horse ride after breakfast & will be shooting grouse this afternoon before enjoying high tea followed by a sumptuous dinner. He'll be well taken care of whatever happens over his residence.

I'm sure he could afford a nice little property in Woking, not too far from the Pizza Express. No sweat!

As my old gaffer used to say.....Let it rot.

If Andrew does have to move to the weeny little Frogmore Cottage - hated by Meghan - will there be enough room for Fergie too? She must be feeling a bit anxious about her future home status.

I bet he's sweating on his next move.

probably having a pizza mozz.

I read somewhere that his lease was dependent on his paying for the upkeep. If he also had to pay for the security, he would be unable to cover this to the required level of maintenance.

No-one can really feel sorry for a man who spends his days idling around living the life of a wealthy country squire, and brooding about how beastly the world is.

He should salvage what little dignity he has left, and move out without fuss.

Why not try and lose your reputation as a slimy freeloading creep, instead of polishing it on a daily basis.

I think that sums it up nicely AH.
