What if aliens landed?

Most people must be aware of the furore surrounding the cartoons that offended Muslims, and what many see as over-reaction by our Islamic breathren. What, I was thinking to myself, would happen if tomorrow we all awoke to see huge motherships hovering above earth, much like depicted in the TV series 'V', and we were faced with a technologically superior army of lizards with forked tongues? Would Muslims put the cartoons behind them and rally alongside the Danes?
Perhaps we need an invasion from another planet to unite ours? Food for thought.

In 'V' they were able to tolerate our atmospheric conditions, and they had laser weapons and the like.
My question is would a hostile alien invasion be enough to reunite the people of the world?
Would it be enough if invaders from another solar system starting eating us, to stop these people in Afghanistan and the like getting killed over some cartoons?

Every society, every group, needs 'a common enemy'. I've noticed this over the years. I'm very lucky, I'm very sociable and very socially adept, and every group i've ever met, be it at work or personal, have always had someone or something to unite against. I believe it to be inherent to human nature.
So I would think (or maybe like to think) that an alien 'invasion' would unite human kind, in fact it could be the best thing to ever happen to us.
