Hmmm...the only way this could work (in my opinion) is to exclude ruffians and tykes from pubs and bars. The only issue with this is that if you are a ruffian or a tyke, you would't be happy giving your fingerprint details to a third party.

And another (civil liberties) question is - 'what would happen to your personal details' once you'd given your information voluntarity?

I think the answer isn't to 'assume everyone is guilty until proven otherwise' but to train up doormen/women to recognise trouble-makers and deal with people on an individual basis.

Sounds like a wuss answer, but I think that's the only real answer!

What a splendid idea. Similar to the DNA question a few weeks back. Nothing to fear, nothing to hide. Simply as that.

I agree with sp1814 and don't like this growing tendency to assume we are all guilty until we 'prove' otherwise. We wouldn't have to give up any civil liberties if we had more police officers on the street acting as a deterrent against criminal acts.

Did you see how violent crime figures dropped by 11% between November and December after the Government put an extra few million pounds into policing to see through the introduction of 24 hour drinking laws?

I would but then I am not going to break the law, I do hate having my photo taken though, and dont like the idea of a barman sniggering at my ugly mugshot.

I really dont see the problem, I am sure it could help cut down on drink spiking, fighting and the like.

I see no problem with it, a good idea.

....to be tested in Yoevil, Somerset: that kickin', happen', crime capital. If it works there, then it's bound to work in less violent areas such as our beloved Londoninum and cities of a more Northerly geography.

Sorry, Loosehead, didn't answer your question at all:

Er... no, I would not.
