The Danes have lost millions of dollars as a result of this cartoon disaster which has dealt a heavy blow to their economy. They now have a tarnished reputation among many Muslims, a relationship which likely wont improve any time in the near future. Dozens of heated protesters have either died or been wounded because of what started off as one lowlife Danish man's stupidity.

I think enough damage has been done.

Nice one Keyvan, it's just that sort of attitude that ensures there's a massive gulf between moslims and non-moslims. 'lowlife' ? how can you possibly say that of someone for publishing a collection of cartoons from several different cartoonists? naive, maybe. So dozens of protesters have died or been injured have they? well of course they were forced to petrol bomb embassies, forced to burn flags, stone buildings and fire automatic weapons indiscriminantly. They couldn't possibly have protested peacefully and in a dignified manner, could they? Because THAT would have been far too............western.

Trojanfarce, the western countries are generally more tolerant towards such controversies, except some extremists on either wings who manifest their objection more violently! Although it should be mentioned that even these Muslim protests are relatively limited and narrow! Its not great numbers of protesters we are talking about here! But the Muslim nations overall enjoy a less tolerant culture, which has been socio-politically consolidated through history! However! One should understand that both sides, Western and Muslim, are plagued by general ignorance and are pivoted around prejudices and generalisation! In West there is common prejudice against Muslims as a whole, an infinite and homogenous mass which is further underpinned by such ignorant and irresponsible use of mass-media! The existence of this power of generalisation and prejudice was proved after the 9-11 where Muslims where �all� blamed and regarded as villains! A similar prejudice and generalisation against westerners exists in the Muslim countries which make the Muslims demonise not only Denmark and the Danes but also every other country that neighbours it! Countries like Sweden and Norway whose flags were initially burned along with Denmark!
My argument is that this newspaper who serves an extremist point of view in Denmark is not unique, and its counterparts are many in the Islamic world! Its decision to go along and publish the forthcoming holocaust cartoons of hamashahri is not a coincidence! Its all calculated! It serves the purpose and agenda this paper has adopted! The current controversy is fuelled by these extremists on both Western and Muslim sides!

I'm sorry if I have side tracked from this subject but that is in response to your question.

Keyvan, any questions were purely rhetorical and whilst I do agree with you on the issue of extremism on both sides, what I didn't agree with was your inference that dozens of deaths and injuries were purely attributable to one man. Not so, they can be directly attributable to the propensity for violence when (extremist) muslims protest against anything they don't agree with.

Now I do have a question for you: What evidence do you have that the paper who published the cartoons, 'serves an extremist point of view'?

Trojan, sorry for the late reply. It's been fairly busy day at work. I think the point I was trying to make was that the stance that this danish newspaper has taken has erupted extremism from the extremists moslems and BNP and other far right parties.

In my opinion two wrongs wont make things right! No matter how many wrongs you try to line up for one side still it cant justify even one single wrong committed by the other side! That is nothing to strive for!

Jyllands-Posten published those cartoons with the full intention to provoke Muslims; this is what Jyllands-Postens culture editor (the irony), Flemming Rose said:

No, they do not. Ridiculing a specific group of people on basis of their religion is actually illegal, and no one should be prepared for anything of that caliber. However wrong the newspaper has been, Muslims have carried their opinions out in wrong ways as well. Burning down embassies, threatening innocent people...NO! You do NOT do that! Come ON! It's not entire nations fault but individuals who happen to be in the power to create the nation's image. I do have a lot of sympathy for Danes 'because most of them either don't agree with the cartoons at all or they are of the same opinion as me. Even those who are okay with the cartoons...it's not like they all personally published them.
