I think that they are trying to put themsleves in a stronger bargaining position by raising the stakes with the west/UN.

I don't think they will be alowed to gain the position you mention. Their capability will be neutralised by force if that guy in charge can't come to his sences of his own accord first. What's the reason for more nukes anyway?

they say they want it for power-generating purposes. This is quite possible. The world is thinking again about nuclear power as the price of oil looks unstable.


Then again, they may well want nuclear weapons. Israel, India, Pakistan and China, all within reach of Tehran, have them. It would hardly be surprising if the mullahs feel vulnerable.

they are sitting above a dwindling resource that the west require to keep their standard of life at its present level - while those in similar postions are invaded with some suspect motives you can't really blame them if they consider making nukes to deter other nations from attacking and this is the safest time for them to do so while the world police are busy fighting in iraq...
