British soldiers are once again denied life saving equipment in war zones.
We are all aware of tragic deaths resulting from a lack of bullet proof vests in the past and now we discover ten more servicemen may have died because the British military do not provide adequate safety features on our aircraft. The protective foam used to prevent fuel tanks exploding after bullet strikes has been used on American aircraft since the the Vietnam War.
I'm no lover of the military operation in Iraq, but surely our servicemen deserve better from their superiors in the military and the MOD at home. Why do these 'mistakes' (the word I wanted to use would be banned.) keep occuring?

And yes i am sure that the budget for the Home office specifically the imigration service has increased but this has not taken away money from the MoD.
In recent years the MoD budget has actually been getting increases above the rate of inflation and is in my opinion well funded, however concidering all the wars mr blair is determined to take on it needs to be well funded.
The real reason for which the RAF have not fitted this foam system to the transport aircraft is more likely to come down to interdepartmental and interservice demands for their respective slice of the MoD budget.
The problem with the MoD and the armed forces in particular is that they spend too much time arguing over where money should be spent and each service fights their own corner. To achieve a better outcome we should look at taking an overall view which is essentially what the MoD should do but sont.
Tony Blair can't be called up for a photo shoot and a grinning session for a load of new bullet proof vests ,but he can be seen to be a compassionate caring soul when our lads get shipped home in a coffin. For the government creeps in charge of the media it is a win/win situation. As for banning the word "mistake" this is scarily like what George Orwell predicted in the book "1984" with the concept of "Newspeak",Changing the name of it will not make it go away.
